Speaking of the devil, not everyone knows everything about competitive play and what to expect when they start playing. So, let’s learn a few things that might help those who want to make the most while playing.

Queuing with multiple people to play isn’t always a good idea

One of the things that people do when they’re interested in Overwatch 2 competitive play and want to reach a desired rank is to queue with someone they know. Some people play with a friend, but we’ve seen loads of 5-stacks recently. Despite the changes that OW 2 delivered regarding this, people keep using it all the time.

While it’s true that there are many situations where queuing with someone can help, there are also scenarios where this isn’t the case. One of them is because of the fact that you will also have to play against people who queue up together. This may not seem like a problem, but you may have problems winning the match.

We’re not trying to discourage people from queuing with a friend, but keep in mind that your getting the Overwatch 2 ranks you want might not be as easy as you think.

Most players won’t be willing to communicate

The second important thing you may notice in almost all Overwatch 2 competitive ranks is that most players won’t be willing to communicate. Sure, you will get chatty teammates from time to time that will want to communicate to win, but usually, this isn’t the case. Instead, people will either not say anything but listen or leave the voice chat right away.

If you’re in such a situation, you have to remember that you can’t rely on them for help all the time. Consequently, everything you do while playing should be based on it, meaning you should not take any unnecessary risks. Of course, it all depends on the specific scenario, so always try to adapt.

In fact, players who can adapt to the situation are always more successful than the rest. You don’t need to be the best Overwatch 2 player to reach your desired rank as long as you know what to do in each situation.

If no one from your team says anything, you can take the role and start calling out different things. Many players underestimate it, but it can make a huge difference.

There are games that you can’t win

Some Overwatch 2 tips and tricks guides will try to convince you that every game is winnable as long as you know what you’re doing. This might be true up to a point, but our experience shows that there are certain games that are just impossible to win.

Whether it’s due to a leaver or someone ruining the game, everyone eventually comes across such times. Needless to say, there is no wait to waste your energy and motivation on them because you won’t be able to do much.

An important thing to mention about the Overwatch 2 competitive play is that people in the lower ranks experience these types of games much more often. High-skilled OW players will rarely tilt and ruin the game for their team, and leavers aren’t that common either. In other words, the higher you go, the less likely it is to deal with this issue. 

Some people won’t follow their role

Whether you’re playing your Overwatch 2 competitive placement matches or you’re queuing for a game after that, there is a pretty good chance you’ll come across people who don’t follow what their role requires them. This is especially true if you play in the Open Queue, where players can pick whatever they want.

Some Overwatch 2 players only focus on DPS and Tanks, and when they don’t get the chance to play either, they pick support and don’t do their role. Perhaps the most common example here is Moira because she’s among the most offensive support heroes. 

Sadly, you can’t do much in these situations other than switching to the position that your team requires. This won’t guarantee you’ll win, but it will definitely give your team a better chance of succeeding.

You will often face boosted players and smurfs

Like any other competitive game, Overwatch 2 is a place where you will often have to go up against two types of players. The first is the boosted ones, meaning someone played with their account to get here. With that said, you also have the smurfs who are using the best Overwatch2 competitive settings to dominate against their enemies in the specific rank.

The bad news is that you can’t tell whether someone is boosted or a smurf until you start playing. Some people might pretend that they fall into one of those groups, but every experienced OW 2 player will eventually find out. 

Although playing against a boosted player is good because you should be able to win easier, you’ll often have to face the booster himself. Needless to say, defeating someone who’s much better than you isn’t always easy.
