6 Overwatch 2 Tips For Advanced Players

Overwatch 2 players interested in reaching the highest possible rank always try to be innovative and surprise their opponents. Some do that by picking the hottest heroes in the meta, whereas others focus on what they’re good at.

With that said, this Overwatch 2 guide will show you a couple of tips and tricks that you can use to improve your gameplay. The things you’re about to read are mostly focused on experienced players, meaning that more people will be able to use them. However, you can also check our other Overwatch 2 guides if you want to learn how to play.

Keep in mind that Overwatch 2 Season 4 is just around the corner, so here is what you need to know if you want to prepare yourself for the next update.

Keeping track of ultimates

One of the many small things that differentiate the good from the bad Overwatch 2 players is related to the ultimates. Usually, this is every hero’s most powerful ability, and it can decide the course of a team fight. That’s why you should always keep an eye on it while playing.

Following the changes in OW 2, keeping an eye on your teammates’ ultimates is easier than ever. All you need to do is check the score sheet from time to time so that you know what to expect. Once you notice that an important teammate has his ult ready, try communicating to make the most of it.

With that said, Overwatch 2 players also need to keep track of their enemies’ ultimates. In fact, we think this is even more important because it allows you to prepare yourself for the upcoming fight. The bad news is that doing this is not as easy as it seems.

There are several ways to track your enemies’ ults in Overwatch 2, such as having more experience while playing. If you notice that a given hero on the enemy team hasn’t died in a while and is effective, there is a pretty good chance he has his ult. Consequently, you should be more careful when playing.

Another thing you can do to keep track of certain ultimates in Overwatch 2 is to watch the death cam. This is one of this game's big advantages, so use it wisely.

Pick the right heroes at the right time

We’ve probably seen a lot of Overwatch 2 players who keep picking the same hero in every game, regardless of whether that hero is worth it or not. They believe that using the same thing over and over again will allow them to get better and win more. Even though this might be true up to a point, if you want to become a top Overwatch 2 DPS, Tank or Support, you need to be playing the right heroes at the right time.

We’re trying to say that you should be flexible and adapt, depending on the situation. In some cases, certain heroes are just not as good as others, so there is no need to keep using them. Instead, think carefully about what works in the specific situation and go for it.

An important thing to remember while playing Overwatch 2 is that you should only get heroes you’re comfortable with. The fact that something can work really well in the current game doesn’t mean you should pick it if you don’t know what you’re doing.

If you look at some of the world’s best Overwatch 2 stars, you will see that many of them play at least a couple of herpes on the highest level possible. Doing this makes them way more effective and adapt according to the situation.

Another reason why you should have more heroes to pick from while playing is that you can work better with your team. As you know, Overwatch 2 tanks are essential right now and often dictate a given team’s tempo. However, the only way to make the most of it is by having a hero that can poke, brawl, jump in, etc., depending on the tank's focus.

Watching the best players in action

One of the things that many Overwatch 2 players don’t think of when playing is that there are many others out there that are much better at what they’re doing. Those who want to improve often implement different things, but they forget to watch the best people in action. This is a shame because we are living in a world where this is easier than ever before.

People who want to watch the hottest OW 2 stars can do by opening Twitch. You will find at least a few different streamers, most high-rated and/or professional players. Keeping an eye on those people will allow you to be much more effective.

If that doesn’t seem interesting, you can always try re-watching your own gameplay. Some people may find this annoying, but it can help much if you pay attention to your mistakes and try to avoid them once you start playing. Albeit easier said than done, if you pay close attention, you can definitely use this to your advantage.

Only focus on tanks if you’re playing specific heroes

As we’ve already mentioned, the Overwatch 2 Tanks have a key role in the game, and people often consider them to be more important than the rest. Besides the buffs that many of them received in the last couple of months, the 5v5 format just helps them a lot. This means that you have a much higher chance of winning the matchup once you kill the enemy team's tank.

Sadly, this is where the problems kick in because dealing with a given tank is way more complicated than it seems. Due to their high HP, defensive abilities, and (sometimes) insane damage output, not every hero can bring down a tank. Consequently, you should only focus on them if your hero has what it takes to bring down the given tank.

There are many examples of Overwatch 2 DPS characters that are just not good versus tanks. For example, playing with Widowmaker and focusing on the enemy’s Reinhardt won’t get you anywhere because the hero has the strongest shield in the game, and you won’t be able to break it. However, playing with Junkrat versus the same hero can allow you to be much more effective.

You should have target priorities and try to make the most of the hero you’re playing with. Some characters are better at killing the enemy's backline, whereas others are great at dealing with the tank.

Don’t be a heal bot unless the game requires it

The next thing we’d like to talk about is focused entirely on the Overwatch 2 support role. Often underrated, many people use this to get to the rank they want because a good support player can make a significant difference in a game. Sadly, not everyone knows how to make the most of this role, and they often end up being healing bots.

Even though this may not sound like a problem, it means that players do not use a given hero’s full potential. Some of the Overwatch 2 Support heroes can be considered healing bots because their abilities make them effective at it. Mercy is probably the best example here, especially following the Overwatch 2 Season 3 reworks.

Of course, other supports have many additional abilities that make them a lot more effective at what they’re doing. For example, Lucio is a hero that is known for providing movement speed, which can be very important. Baptiste is another interesting hero because of his damage output. The hero can often do as much damage as some of the DPS.

Learning how to win duels

We’d like to conclude this article about Overwatch 2 by sharing a few words about the duels. The latter is a term that people use to describe a 1v1 scenario where you have to go up against a specific hero. As you can imagine, this happens more often than you think, so you have to be prepared.

Learning how to win duels is complicated and will take time, especially with some heroes. That’s because certain characters in OW 2 are much better at it than others. This is especially true for Tanks because they can win against pretty much anything.

With that said, putting the mirror duels aside, the most common matchup you’ll see is between a support and a DPS. Some supports are really strong in duels and can win against most opponents. Yet, others have problems, so they need to be careful. Knowing your hero’s limits is key, so always conduct your own research before you start playing.
