Final Fantasy XIV reactivates automatic Housing Demolition on Wednesday, 9 March

After careful consideration, Final Fantasy XIV's team has decided the activate the automatic housing demolition on the 9th of march at around 8am GMT

With the release of Endwalker, Final Fantasy XIV saw previously unknown server congestion. It got so bad in fact that Square Enix decided to pull the game from digital and physical stores, and it only went back on sale earlier this month.

Demolitions reinstated

The free trial of the critically acclaimed MMORPG remains to be unavailable and Square Enix has yet to comment on reinstating it. With such unprecedented sever congestion, the team also decided to deactivate the games automatic housing demolition system.
For those who don't know, this feature demolishes a player or free company house not visited for 45 days by its owner. Making it available for purchase again after a random timeslot within 24 hours after demolition. Players who's houses have been demolished can reclaim certain housing Item's and 80% of the plots value in Gil within the next 35 days until they are gone for good. If your house is up for demolition, Square Enix will send you an E-mail to warn you that your plot is about to be vacated.
The buying process after a house is demolished caused alot of headache, ever since the current system was put in place. Since it often lead to players camping a plot for up to 24 hours, spam clicking the command to buy a plot. This system will receive an overhaul with the release of the 6.1 patch.

What you can do

But lets say you have a house. And you haven't been able to log in and visit it ever since demolitions have been turned off. We'll give you a quick rundown on how the system is going to work, once it's been put back into action:

  • For players who have entered their estate at least once during the suspension period:
The auto-demolition timer will be reset for free company estates that have been entered by a leader or member at least once, and private estates that have been entered by the owner at least once.
The count for days of inactivity for the aforementioned estates will begin again on Wednesday, 9 March 2022 around 8:00 (GMT) / 19:00 (AEDT).
  • For players who have not entered their estate during the suspension period:
The automatic demolition timer will resume from the time that was remaining as of Monday, 6 December 2021 at 6:45 (GMT) / 17:45 (AEDT).
An e-mail notification will be delivered to the e-mail address registered to the Square Enix accounts of those players whose estates will be prepared for automatic demolition within ten days from when the timer resumes. We strongly suggest those players log in and enter their estate before the automatic demolition timer is resumed on Wednesday, 9 March 2022 around 8:00 (GMT) / 19:00 (AEDT).

The future of housing

Final Fantasy XIV's housing system has been cause to headache for quite a while now. With the recent boom of new players entering the world of Hydaelyn. There never seem to be enough houses for everyone. Especially on the more popular servers and Data Center's. Even if there are currently 5760 plots per server, previously up till the early Stromblood's patch cycle. Players and Free Companies had been able to purchase multiple plots. Currently players are able up to one personal plot per server, per account. And an additional one for their Free Company, should it fulfil certain criteria.

With the release of the 6.1 patch, Square Enix plans to release an entirely new housing district; The Empyreum. It will release with 24 wards like previous districts, this will add another 1440 housing plots to each server. As we previously reported, there will also be a new system for purchasing a plot. Player's will now be able to put in money upfront to enter a lottery system. And should you fail to obtain the plot, you'll get the money spend back. But if you consider to become a happy homeowner, once the patch lands. Here is a list with the expected prices. Do note that these prices won't devaluate over time anymore and are still subject to change.
