Final Fantasy XIV 6.4 Letter from the Producer 76 Summary – Release Date, Exciting New Content and more!

The most recent Letter from the Producer Live of Final Fantasy XIV has just wrapped. Here we have all the information regarding the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV 6.4 patch!

Final Fantasy XIV's 6.4 patch is right around the corner. In the recent Letter from the Producer, we got a good idea of what content you can expect in the upcoming patch. We're getting more of the usual such as the next chapter of the Main Scenario Quest's new additions to existing content and a slew of quality-of-life updates.

This summary will feature all the announcements made at the most recent Live Letter, there will be a part 2 within the next few weeks with more information and an exact release date.

Final Fantasy XIV 6.4 Release Date

The next patch of the critically acclaimed MMORPG will be called The Dark Throne and is scheduled to release in late May of 2023. As patch day is usually on a Tuesday, you can expect the patch to be released on either the 23rd or 30th of May.

Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida also teased that the upcoming 6.4 patches will include hints for what the next expansion will look like. And it seems like this new patch aims to finish the oncoming storyline as we gradually approach 7.0. Which will be revealed at the Fan Fest in Las Vegas in late July.

New Quest Content

With Final Fantasy XIV patch 6.4, you can of course expect more of the usual in regard to quests. As the Endwalker patch cycle slowly draws to a close, the MSQ continues. there was nothing solid from the Live Letter, but this patch seems to wrap up the Void storyline we've been pressing since 6.1.

But we'll also get to see another addition to Tataru's Grand Endeavor questline which aims to wrap up and continue optional quests from Final Fantasy XIV's past. With the Four Lords playing a prominent part in the 6.3 patches, will include Shadowbringers content.

Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.4

This time we'll catch up with Gaius van Baelsar and other characters from the “The Sorrow of Werlyt” questline, commonly referred to as the Weapons Questline which was featured in Shadowbringers trial series. To accept the quest, you'll have to finish the “The Sorrow of Werlyt” questline.

With patch 6.45 which is expected to release a couple of weeks after the 6.4 patch, we get another entry in the Hildibrand questline. Somehow Further Hildibrand Adventures goes into its next chapter and expects you to be all caught up. This quest will also tie into the next step of your relict weapon.

Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.4

Relicts

With patch 6.45, you can also expect the next step in your relict weapons and tools.

After you finish the Somehow Further Hildibrand Adventures, you'll be able to take the next step with your Mandevile weapons. They didn't really say what the next step will look like after the last one was received less favorably by the wider audience but maybe that's just a trick!

We'll also get to do the next step of your splendors tools, which are the relicts for crafters and gatherers. And you can be damn sure that this will once again include copious amounts of grinding if you plan to gear up all your crafters and gatherers.

Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.4

New Raid: Pandaemonium: Anabaseios

Even numbered quest also means a new raid. This will be the last part of Endwalkers Pandaemonium questline. This time we'll venture even deeper into the pocket dimension and reach Anabaseios to face off with the horrors the ancients have locked up down there.

The normal version will always feature four raid encounters, that'll reward you with tokens you can then exchange for new gear. A week after the patch releases, we'll also get the next Savage Raid tier which also includes four encounters.

Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida acknowledged that the last raid tier, Abyssos was a little hard, especially with the last encounter being slightly overtuned. He promised that the team wouldn't repeat the same mistakes and thought that this new raid is slightly easier than the last one.

Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.4

Battle Content

New Patch means new Battle Content and Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.4 will continue the time-honored of giving you more of the usual with some little neat additions thrown in.

First is the new dungeon that will probably be part of the main scenario. This one is called The Aetherfont and is probably located somewhere in the Northern Empty. It seems to be some kind of Sharlayan research facility. We don't know much, but Yoshida stated that it has a good pace.

The new trial will be called The Voidcast Dias and will have us go toe to toe with Final Fantasy IV villain Golbez. Who might not even be the villain of this story after all, if Final Fantasy IV's story is anything to go by.

Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.4

This trial will also feature an extreme version that will hopefully continue the trend of Endwalker trials being hectic and fast-paced compared to the more mechanically intense raids. Here you'll also be able to grind out and earn a new weapon that'll make the upcoming raid tier hopefully a little easier.

FFXIV's next patch will also include a new Unreal Trial. After Sephirot and Sophia, the next encounter will be a reworked and adjusted fight with Zurvan, the Demon in the Containment Bay Z1T9. We'll see if this content will also feature a rework of some mechanics like the other fights.

Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.4

Variant and Criterion Dungeon 2: Mount Rokkon

Against my predictions, the next Variant/Criterion Dungeon will not take us to the Shroud or Limsa Lominsa. Instead, our adventures now take us east to what looks like Hingashi.

After the success of the last Variant and Criterion Dungeon, which were released in 6.25. Players will once again be able to brave a dungeon in a chose-your-own-adventure-style narrative. We don't know if it will follow the same structure laid out by the Sil'dihn Subterrane or be expanded.

The Variant version will feature multiple paths, while the Criterion and Criterion (Savage) versions of the counter will be a linear, more curated experience. But you don't have to complete or even accept the quest for the Sil'dihn Subterrane to participate in this piece of content.

Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.4

Stormblood Duty Support

In the ongoing effort to future-proof Final Fantasy XIV, the team at Square Enix has started to implement the Duty Support feature into earlier content. The feature functions similarly to the Trust System that was implemented in Shadowbringers but doesn't come with the added leveling of companions.

Up until now, you can play all dungeons as well as the A Realm Reborn trials with AI companions if you don't want to wait for the duty finder. The feature also introduces smaller character interactions similar to the Trusts found in later expansions.

With the Stormblood Duty Support, you'll be able to play The Sirensong Sea, Bardam's Mettle, Doma Castle, Castrum Abania, and Ala Mhigo with AI companions. And like the previous updates, these dungeons also receive a little visual overhaul to bring them up to the current standard.

You can also expect some minor adjustments to some of the quests and solo duties featured in Stormblood. And with the 6.5 patches coming later this year, all MSQ-related dungeon content will be playable with AI companions.

Job Adjustments

Like with every patch, you can expect some minor reworks to the balance of Final Fantasy XIV's many jobs. Yoshida didn't give any specific examples, but we're still waiting on the planned reworks for Astrologian and Dragoon in PvE content.

As for the PvP adjustments, expect some numbers to change around to shake up the current meta. But more details will be available after the next live letter.

PvP Updates

With PvP adjustments will also come new updates! Final Fantasy XIV's fourth PvP series will begin with the launch of patch 6.4. For the uninitiated, it is a kind of battle pass (don't worry no premium currency involved) that you rank up by participating in the various PvP modes for rewards.

Patch 6.4 will mark the beginning of Season Seven of the Crystalline Conflict. Again you'll be able to compete for rankings and ascend to the very top. The rewards will probably once again just be bragging rights and something fancy for your adventurer plate.

There'll also be some adjustments to the Frontlines PvP mode. First, the UI will receive a minor overhaul to display match time and score more properly instead of being tucked away in your quest/duty log.

The map The Field of Glory (Shatter) will receive an overhaul of its rules as well, more details will probably be given in the next Final Fantasy XIV Live Letter. And The Borderlands Ruins (Secure) will be made unavailable until further notice for a rework.

Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.4

Blue Mage Update (6.45)

Finally some good content. With the 6.45 patch, Blue Mage will finally be unleashed upon Shadowbringers content. Its current limited-level cap will be raised to 80 and it will finally be able to participate in 5.x content.

It has been almost 2 years since Final Fantasy XIV allowed the Blue Menace to decent and leave naught but tears and ash.

Additions to Blue Mage's limited battle content will be another set of missions in the Masked Carnivale, new spells to learn from all your favorite Shadowbringes encounters (Light Rampart here I come), and several new challenges and achievements. You'll also unlock a new set of gear.

Now, please make Ultimates available for Blue Mages and raise the level cap to 90 in the next patch, I beg you Yoshida.

Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.4

Ocean Fishing Update

Final Fantasy XIV's most important content is also receiving another update! The popular Ocean Fishing will now take out en route to Kugane and back! It's a long trip to expect to see all kinds of strange sea creatures and other special attractions.

Ocean Fishing throws an alliance raid-sized group of players on a ship and lets them fish. Fishing accumulates points, which result in all kinds of rewards depending on how well you score. While it is RNG hell, it is next to filling your fishing log with some of Final Fantasy XIV's best content.

This update will potentially also add new rewards and achievements for the mode, maybe even a title to surpass “World Class Troller”.

Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.4 Island Sanctuary

Island Sanctuary Update

The popular Island Sanctuary will also receive its first major update after the content was introduced in patch 6.25. Since then it has received some minor adjustments and new things here and there but now we're finally getting something more substantial.

Patch 6.4 and potentially 6.45 will add just more Island Sanctuary. Another set of Sanctuary Ranks and Visions that'll probably be capped off with a few more quests.

There'll also be a completely new gathering area added to the wilds outside your sanctuary. This comes with new materials to gather, new animals to catch, new crops to grow, and new crafts and handicrafts for you to sell. As well as new structures to build and rewards to unlock.

The bigger update to your hideaway will be the ability to place outdoor furnishings like you can in the garden of your house. You'll be able to place up to 90 different outdoor furnishings all around your property. The slots will at first be limited but you can unlock more as you build out your sanctuary.

Do however note that special furnishings like Striking Dummies and Gardens will not be supported by this feature.

Miscellaneous Updates

With a new even numbered patch, Final Fantasy XIV will also receive a new tomestone currency. This time the currency will be called Allagan Tomestones of Comedy and come with the usual cap of 450 you can earn per week.

The old currency will like always be cycled out once patch 6.5 lands, but you will be able to exchange it for new currency at the designated NPC.

The number of gear sets will also be increased to 100. Currently, you can create up to 45 gear sets. Yoshida also noted that players would of course complain that there are not enough glamour plates, but now you can at least ready new outfits if you have them in your inventory.

The UI will also receive a minor overhaul, after that thing happened during the last two ultimates, the team has now decided to add more features to the chat and nameplates.

Players' jobs/classes will now be displayed on their nameplates in open-world content and their roles will be displayed in the chat with a designated color.

The Market Board will also receive a slight UI overhaul. now it will correctly display the tax players have to pay, whenever they buy an item as well as the price with the tax included. Previously, that tax wasn't included in the full price, leading to some confusion.

Fashion accessories such as glasses and wings will now be displayed when engaging in battle content in the overworld.

You'll also be able to glamour items in a variety of locations if you cast glamour in an Inn. Meaning you can probably dye and cast glamour from your inventory, your Chocobo saddlebag, the glamour dresser, retainers, and maybe even your armory. Good Update.

And you'll also, finally be able to cast a glamour on your fairy as a Scholar. Previously you were able to summon either Eos or Selene who since 5.0 served no unique function. Now you can glamour your fairy as either Eos, Selene, or Carbuncle. Yummy.

Final Fantasy XIV Fan FestUpdates on Fan Fest 2023/2024

Final Fantasy XIV's Fan Fest is also around the corner, with tickets for the NA Fan Fest in July and the EU Fan Fest in October being completely sold out. The Fan Fest tickets for the Japanese event in January are expected to go on sale in the near future.

For the event in July, you can expect the reveal of Final Fantasy XIV's next expansion as well as the Live Letter for the last patch of Endwalker, 6.5.

Yoshida only gave some brief announcements on what to expect, but the Fan Fest in Las Vegas in July will demo the graphical updates the team has been working on for the upcoming expansion. On that note, he also reassured players that these updates would come, if in a limited capacity to PlayStation 4.

If you missed out on the Final Fantasy XIV Orchestra Concert 2022 – Eorzean Symphony-, the Blu-ray is now on sale. The Orchestra will also tour alongside the NA and EU Fan Fest's and tickets will be available shortly.
