Scump Announces 2023 as Final Year of Competitive COD

Scump is set to retirement following the 2023 Modern Warfare 2 Season

Seth “Scump” Abner is widely seen as one of the best Call of Duty players of all time. Starting his career in 2011, Scump has announced that 2023 will be his final year of competition, and he will retire following the Modern Warfare 2 season. 

Scump’s Career

Scump has been a household name in Call of Duty for years. While some players are known strictly in the competitive community, Scump is known by the wider scene of casual Call of Duty players due to his YouTube channel. Scump gained notoriety during Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, where his ‘Sweatbannin’ series of pubstomping videos blew up.

OpTic Gaming has been the home for Scump since 2012, where he has stuck with the team through the highs and lows. His greatest achievement comes in the 2017 Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare World Championships, which still stands as his only World Champs victory. However, with 30 major wins, Scump is no stranger to consistent victories in Call of Duty.

The past two seasons have been up and down for OpTic; while they look like they could be the best in the game at times, they have always struggled to close it out and win tournaments. The 2022 Vanguard season was especially tough, as iLLeY was injured and disrupted the entire flow of the year for the team.

This announcement comes just five weeks before the start of the 2023 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 season. “One last season is pretty much all I have left in the tank” Scump said in his announcement video. While some may hope that a good year would see Scump go back on his decision, he said, “we could win Champs, we could win every fucking tournament, it doesn't matter, this is my last year.”

Scump titles this season as his “Last Dance”, and given his consistent determination throughout the years, we expect Scump and the rest of the OpTic Texas team to go harder than ever and secure one final major or even Champs victory for the veteran.
