CDL 2023 Major 1 Qualifiers – Week 2; Day 2 Recap

Here’s everything that went down on the second day of the second week of the 2023 CDL season.

The Call of Duty League continued with four more matches as we got into the second week of the 2023 Call of Duty League season. We saw multiple upsets last week, with the London Royal Ravens going 2-0, alongside Boston Breach, who looked incredible. Here’s a recap of every match from the second day of week two in the 2023 Call of Duty League Season.

Atlanta FaZe 3-0 Las Vegas Legion

Atlanta FaZe came into this match with a 1-2 record following a defeat to Toronto Ultra in Friday's matches. As usual, playing FaZe after a loss is something no team wants to do as they continually come out harder and at the top of their game. This is exactly what happened against Las Vegas Legion, with FaZe kicking off the series with a dominant 250-207 Embassy Hardpoint. aBeZy topped the leaderboard in this map, putting up 24 kills and a 1.71 K/D as FaZe took a 1-0 series lead. However, this was the least dominant map of the series as Atlanta FaZe went on to take a 6-0 Embassy Search and Destroy, followed by a 3-0 Hotel Control to win the series 3-0.

This was an incredible series for aBeZy, who may be back to his best following the change in meta. He dropped 49 kills over the entire series with a 1.75 K/D, making him lead the lobby in kills and K/D.

OpTic Texas 3-2 London Royal Ravens

This was a record-breaking series for Asim of the London Royal Ravens. However, most of the London fans will have missed the game due to it clashing with England’s World Cup Quarter-Final match. However, Asim completely dominated this series with an unbelievable map one for the Ravens. The London Royal Ravens took a 1-0 lead in the series through a 250-223 Fortress Hardpoint win, where Asim dropped a massive 38 kills and a 1.73 K.D.

However, OpTic Texas came back with a 6-2 Mercado Search and Destroy win that saw Scump dominate with 8 kills and a 2.00 K/D. In the following map, the London Royal Ravens had a 2-0 lead in Hotel Control. However, for the second day in a row, they lost the map, seeing OpTic come back with three straight rounds and another massive game from Scump with 30 kills and a 1.20 K.D. However, Asim also put up 32 kills of his own. Asim followed this up with 35 kills in map four, making him the only player to drop 30 kills in each respawn map of a series this year. Asim’s 35 kills were a massive help to the Royal Ravens 250-193 Embassy Hardpoint win that saw them tie the series and force a game five. However, there was no escaping OpTic’s Search and Destroy dominance today as they took a 6-1 victory in game five to take the series 3-2.

New York Subliners 3-2 Boston Breach

The New York Subliners completed the first reverse sweep of the season in last night's match against Boston Breach. But they should've finished this series much earlier. Boston Breach started the series with a 250-218 Fortress Hardpoint win. However, the New York Subliners outslayed massively here, and should have taken advantage of that in map one. Map two saw us return to Fortress, where Boston Breach continued their win streak with a 6-5 round 11 victory. NYSL had a 4-1 lead in this map, and yet again, should have taken advantage of that and should be the team with the 2-0 lead.

The New York Subliners started to regain control of the series with a 3-2 Fortress Control win, absolutely dominated by HyDra. The French Phenom absolutely ran the map, putting up 39 kills and a 1.56 K/D as NYSL began the reverse sweep. A close map four saw New York come out on top with a 250-221 Hydro Hardpoint win to tie the series, before Skyz dominated the map with his Sniper on Embassy Search and Destroy to win 6-3, and take the series 3-2.

Florida Mutineers 3-1 LA Thieves

The Florida Mutineers provided us with what might be the biggest upset so far in the Call of Duty League as they defeated LA Thieves 3-1 in last night's final match. The LA Thieves began the series strong with a 250-189 Hotel Hardpoint victory. This was dominant from the Thieves as they outslayed the Mutineers by 16 kills, and this set a very scary precedent for the rest of the series. However, Florida continued to perform in Search and Destroy, and map two on El Asilo saw them clutch up in a round 11 to tie the series.

Staying on El Asilo, Florida took a 2-1 series lead through a 3-1 victory on Control. Florida has been one of the best offensive teams on El Asilo so far this year, and continued to look excellent on this map. Finally, the Florida Mutineers closed out the series 3-1 with a 250-194 Embassy Hardpoint victory. This was an incredible map by Brack, who put up a massive 39 kills and a 2.17 K/D to close out the series.
