CDL Major 1 – Finals Recap

Here’s everything that went down on the final day of CDL Major 1.

The Call of Duty League Major 1 madness continued today with day 4, the final day of the event. If you missed any of the action yesterday, we've got you covered here.

But today we saw the Winners Finals, before seeing two Elimination bracket matches before the Grand Final. Here’s a recap of it all.

Seattle Surge 3-2 Atlanta FaZe

Seattle Surge have looked great so far at the Major, but it seems that they need Sib and Pred to be dominating for them to win. Map one of this series was an Embassy Hardpoint, and Pred came out hot with 37 kills and a 1.61 K/D. However, this time it was Mack joining him as he put up 33 kills and a 1.38 K/D himself as Seattle Surge took a 1-0 lead in the series. However, Atlanta FaZe bounced right back into the series with a 6-2 Embassy Search and Destroy. The entire FaZe squad was dominant here, and Atlanta FaZe leveled the series 1-1.

Seattle Surge took a map three Hotel Control victory 3-1 to take a 2-1 lead in this series. Accuracy had an incredibly clutch moment in the third round of this map, picking up a Vaznev and taking out three of the Atlanta FaZe players to get on the point and cap it. In the following round, Mack was the one to clutch up, and this was what saw Surge take the map victory. Seattle Surge had an incredible around 130 point lead in this map four Fortress Hardpoint. Somehow, Atlanta FaZe pulled off an incredible comeback that we don't think you’ll see again this year. FaZe pulled it back to take a 250-234 victory, led by the main AR of Slasher who ended the map with a massive 36 kills.

Seattle Surge closed out the series in the map five through a 6-4 El Asilo Search and Destroy victory. This was yet again extremely close, however Seattle Surge somehow clutched up and confirmed their spot in Major 1 Grand Finals.

New York Subliners 3-2 Toronto Ultra

Toronto Ultra looks to be a great team on Hotel in this game. Well, this series sees the first three maps all played on Hotel, and Toronto took map one 250-236. This was a game of low kills that saw both teams prioritise teamwork, and it was the final big hold from Ultra that saw them come back from 200-236, to win the map and take a 1-0 series lead. The New York Subliners leveled the series 1-1 with a 6-3 Hotel Search and Destroy victory in map two. Kismet was the playmaker in this map, putting up 13 kills and a 3.25 K/D as NYSL won this crucial map.

The New York Subliners continued the momentum from map two into map three for a dominant Hotel Control where they won 3-0. This saw Toronto Ultra handed their first Hotel Control loss of the season, and sees them down 2-1 in the series. However, Toronto Ultra forced a game five through a 250-139 Mercado Hardpoint, breaking NYSL’s unbeaten record on the map in the process. NYSL took a 6-2 victory on Fortress Search and Destroy to win the series 3-2 and send Toronto Ultra home. This was a well played map from NYSL, and saw them go on to play Atlanta FaZe for a spot in the finals.

New York Subliners 3-1 Atlanta FaZe

The New York Subliners came straight into this next match and they came in hot. In their previous series, they came close to a Hotel Hardpoint win. In this series, they did it with ease, taking a 250-199 victory to end Atlanta FaZe’s flawless run on the map. Kismet was incredible again with some of the biggest kills in the map coming from him, however it was a three piece from Hydra that allowed New York to break in the final hill and win the map. Atlanta FaZe instantly tied the series with a 6-4 Hotel Search and Destroy victory in map two. aBeZy has been incredible in SnD so far at the Major, and this map was no different as he put up a massive 15 kills with a 3.00 K/D as FaZe levelled the series.

With now a 12-1 record in Control rounds at the Major, NYSL completely dominated Atlanta FaZe on Hotel with a quick and dominant 3-0 victory. And the dominance didn't stop here, and the New York Subliners came out hot in map four and cemented their spot in the Grand Finals following a 250-210 Fortress Hardpoint. Priestahh was incredible here, and the whole team seems to be heated up heading into the final.

New York Subliners 4-1 Seattle Surge (Grand Finals)

The New York Subliners kicked off this series with an unbelievable comeback to take a 250-248 Hotel Hardpoint victory, and a 1-0 lead in this best of seven Grand Finals series. Seattle Surge found themselves 248-200 up before the rotation to restaurant, here, NYSL held another full 60 second as they did earlier in the map, seeing them pull the match back and continue their momentum from their 3-1 victory over FaZe. NYSL took a 2-0 lead in the series following a 6-4 Mercado Search and Destroy. This was an interesting map as the Subliners seemed to have a different strat for every single round, however they came out with the victory heading into Hotel Control.

Hotel Control is an interesting map as the offensive side appears to be the easier side to win on. Due to this, statistics look as though Seattle Surge should have won this map, however with less kills than Surge over the first four rounds NYSL were granted offence for the final round of the map. They took full advantage, with Kismet having an incredible round alongside the rest of the team as they won 3-2, and took the series to Tournament Point at 3-0. Seattle Surge came back to make the series 3-1 following a 250-231 Mercado Hardpoint. However, the New York Subliners closed out the series with a 6-2 Embassy Search and Destroy to take the first championship of the season at Major 1.
