CDL Major 2 Qualifiers – Week 1; Day 1 Recap

Here’s all the action from the first day of Major 2 Qualifiers.

The Call of Duty League is finally back after a long break for the holidays. We return with online qualifiers for Major 2 hosted by Boston Breach, and we were gifted with some exceptional matches as always. Tonight we saw three games, including a new look London Royal Ravens, and a Seattle Surge roster who could have some chemistry issues following the OpTic Pred talks.

Toronto Ultra 3-0 London Royal Ravens

The London Royal Ravens have brought in Matthew “Skrapz” Marshall to the starting roster for Major 2. This sees PaulEhx leave the roster, and a brand new style of play comes to the Royal Ravens. The first map of this series did not go as planned for the Ravens, as Toronto Ultra came out on top with a 250-166 Mercado Hardpoint victory. Insight and Standy topped the K/D charts putting up 1.40 and 1.39 K/D’s respectively, however it was Ultra’s breaks that solidified this victory for them. London had multiple rotations in their hands, however Ultra’s teamwork gave them clean and easy breaks that resulted in the map win.

Asim was playing out of his skin in map two, putting up a massive 17/6 performance seeing him end the Embassy Search and Destroy with a 2.83 K/D. However, this somehow was not enough to pull his Royal Ravens teammates across the line, as Toronto Ultra took a 2-0 lead in the series following a 6-4 victory. It was a fairly even performance on the side of Ultra, however Scrappy topped the leaderboard with 10 kills as we moved on to the Control. Toronto Ultra closed out the series in a quick 3-0 following a 3-2 victory on Hotel Control. This was not an easy game however, as the London Royal Ravens began to make a comeback from 2-0 down to 2-2 in the Control and looked close to taking the final round. However, the time was in the favour of Toronto Ultra and they closed out the series looking excellent as usual.

Boston Breach 3-0 Minnesota ROKKR

Boston Breach struggled at Major 1, however they came into this match with some fire. They took map one Fortress Hardpoint 250-144 with an excellent map from Owakening putting up a 29/17 performance with a X K/D. Vivid was also frying in this map, earning streaks to help Boston close out the map and take a 1-0 lead in this important qualifying match.

Minnesota ROKKR mistakes were punished by Boston Breach in this El Asilo map two Search and Destroy as Boston took a 6-3 victory to go 2-0 up in this series. So far in this series Boston Breach have looked incredible, similar to their performance at the beginning of the year in the first week of Major 1 qualifiers. Owakening has been the main slayer, yet again performing in the Search and Destroy and winning a crucial 1v1 against Afro to swing the map in favour of the Breach.

Boston Breach closed out our second 3-0 of the day with a dominant 3-0 Hotel Control victory. Owakening was excellent once again, however it was a clutch play from Methodz to cap the B point that put Breach 2-0 up in this map, and may have chalked the mental of Minnesota ROKKR and led to the win. Cammy suffered this map, putting up just 9 kills across the three rounds as ROKKR took a 3-0 defeat.

Las Vegas Legion 3-2 Seattle Surge

An extremely close fought Embassy Hardpoint went the way of Seattle Surge 250-241. The final hill of this map was incredibly mixy, however it was the ice from Accuracy getting crucial kills to hold the point and win the map. Pred nearly found himself on OpTic for this Major, but this did not stop him from performing tonight as he started this series with an unbelievable 31 kills in map one as Seattle Surge took a 1-0 lead in the series.

New York Subliners vs Los Angeles Guerrillas Preview and Predictions: Call of Duty League 2023 Stage 5 Qualifiers

Thankfully for us Call of Duty League fans, Las Vegas Legion stopped us from seeing three 3-0’s in a row with a map two victory. A 6-2 El Asilo Search and Destroy win saw Las Vegas Legion tie the series 1-1, and they looked incredible. Prolute kicked off the map with an ace in round one and went on to finish the map going 8/4, a scoreline that TJHaly joined him on as we moved onto the Control. Seattle Surge quickly closed out the Control with a 3-0 victory on Fortress. The first round in this map seemed to be going the way of the Las Vegas Legion. However, Pred took over and dominated the round to bring it back in favour of Seattle Surge and take a 1-0 lead in the Control which gave them momentum to close out the map.

Las Vegas Legion pushed us to a map five with a 250-216 Mercado Hardpoint victory to take Seattle Surge all the way. Seattle Surge were in control in points during this map, however Las Vegas Legion perfected their holds and earnt valuable scrap time when needed that pushed them ever closer to the 250 point mark and eventually saw them close out the map. Las Vegas Legion closed out the series with a 6-3 victory to win 3-2. Pred dropped 10 kills on the side of Seattle Surge, however it wasn't enough to win the map as Vegas Legion shocked the CDL.
