CDL Major 2 Qualifiers – Week 1; Day 3 Recap

Here’s all the action from week 1 day 3 of the CDL Major 2 Qualifiers.

The Call of Duty League Major 2 Qualifiers continued with day three of week one. Tonight we saw the return of OpTic Texas with their brand new pickup Huke, alongside Boston Breach’s second match of the qualifiers following their dominant performance on day one.

Toronto Ultra 3-1 Florida Mutineers

Toronto Ultra were 235-140 up in this map one Mercado Hardpoint after they mounted a comeback from an early Florida Mutineers lead. However, Standy disconnected from the game while Ultra were just 15 points away from the victory. For some reason, the ruling saw this be a full replay of the map. However, Toronto remained composed and took the victory in the replay 250-165 with a great performance from the entire team across the board to see them take a 2-0 lead in the series.

The Florida Mutineers bounced back in the map two El Asilo Search and Destroy with a dominant 6-1 victory to continue their excellent Search and Destroy performances this season. Florida continues to look great in Search and Destroy, and could be one of the best teams in the mode in the game, so this map three could be crucial for this series. Toronto Ultra bounced back with a quick and easy 3-0 in Fortress Control to regain the lead in the series. Standy and Scrappy were dominant in this map, dropping 21 and 15 kills respectively for 2.10 and 1.87 K/D. Ultra dominated the defensive side of the rounds, putting the Mutineers in the trap and taking an easy 2-1 lead in the series.

The series was closed out with a 250-191 Hotel Hardpoint win for the side of Toronto Ultra as they took the series 3-1. Florida Mutineers took a lead early in this map with MajorManiak picking up streaks in the first rotation. However, it was the patience and the resilience from Ultra that saw them take the series.

OpTic Texas 3-2 Boston Breach

Over the past few weeks we have seen a lot of drama involving OpTic Texas. From a rumoured 7 figure buyout attempt for Pred, to OpTic eventually signing Huke to reunite XEO and Dashy calling out coach Rambo for leaving scrims to go bowling. With all that aside, they took on a rejuvenated Boston Breach and looked to get their first win under their belt with their new roster.

This looked like a completely new OpTic in map one, dominating with a 250-180 Hotel Hardpoint victory that saw them take a 1-0 lead in the series. Huke had an excellent debut on the roster with a 1.30 K/D, the second highest on OpTic. However, it was iLLeY who dominated with a massive 2.09 K/D to kick off the series. Boston Breach came back for a 6-2 Embassy Search and Destroy victory in map two. This looked like the OpTic of old, with multiple mistakes in the Search and Destroy. However, this next map could determine the series, and we went back to Hotel.

OpTic Texas regained their series lead with a 3-1 Hotel Control victory. Following a short break and a round replay, OpTic closed out the map for a 3-1 win with yet again another excellent respawn map from the entire team. Map four was one of the closest endings of all season, however it was Boston Breach who clutched up with a 250-244 Embassy Hardpoint victory to tie the series and force a game five. Nero put up a massive 36 kills on the side of Boston while Huke led the way on the side of OpTic. However Huke’s heroics were not enough as we headed to a Mercado Search and Destroy for map five. This map five saw OpTic Texas come out with a 6-3 victory for a 3-2 win in the series. Vivid put up a big 13 kills for the side of Boston Breach, however it wasn't enough to bring a victory for the Breach and OpTic took the series.

Los Angeles Guerrillas 3-1 LA Thieves

The Los Angeles Guerrillas suffered a defeat to the Florida Mutineers yesterday, but they came out hot in today's match. LAG took a dominant 250-153 Embassy Hardpoint to kick off the series, seeing Exceed and JoeDeceives dominate the map with JoeDeceives especially frying, putting up 28 kills and a 1.64 K/D as the Los Angeles Guerrillas took a 1-0 lead in this series.

Exceed had an unbelievable performance in map two as the Los Angeles Guerrillas went 2-0 up in the series following a 6-4 El Asilo Search and Destroy victory. Exceed put up 9 kills in this map as he was aggressive and fast running through the LAT players and leading his team to series point. LA Thieves refused to go out easy as they responded with a 3-1 Fortress Control victory to get themselves back in the series. Octane was the main slayer on the side of the Thieves with 31 kills as LAT outslayed and we remained on Fortress for map four.

The series went the way of the Los Angeles Guerrillas following an extremely dominant map from Arcitys as he put up a massive 34 kills and a 2.00 K/D as LAG took a 250-199 Fortress Hardpoint victory to win the series 3-1.
