CDL Major 2 Qualifiers – Week 2; Day 1 Recap

Here’s everything from the first day of the second week of CDL major 2 qualifiers.

The Call of Duty League community is saddened by the retirement of Seth “Scump” Abner last week. However, the show must go on and we get back into the games with week two of Major 2 Qualifiers. We saw another three matches tonight with our first look at OpTic without Scump on the roster.

New York Subliners 3-1 Florida Mutineers

The New York Subliners has looked great since their Major 1 victory, and they continued to perform in this match starting off with a 250-143 Hydro Hardpoint victory. Kismet and Hydra were dominating as the SMGs on this map, however, the whole team was completely outslaying the Mutineers as they started off this series strong. The Florida Mutineers came back with a strong 6-3 map two El Asilo Search and Destroy to level the series in map two. Vikul was exceptional as he put up a massive 15 kills for a 5.00 K/D as the Mutineers looked great, and if it wasn’t for some slip-ups in early rounds this could’ve been a more dominant scoreline.

Hydra may have just had one of the most dominant performances we have seen in the Call of Duty League ever as he completely dominated map three. His 24 kills and 3.00 K/D saw NYSL take the map three Hotel Control with a quick 3-0, seeing the SMGs of Kismet and Hydra dominate once again. The New York Subliners closed out the series 3-1 through a 250-160 Hotel Hardpoint victory. Yet again Kismet and Hydra were exceptional as the SMG pressure was too much for the Mutineers to handle in this series.

OpTic Texas 3-2 Seattle Surge

OpTic Texas played their first match in the league without Scump tonight and unfortunately got off to a bad start. Seattle Surge took the opening Fortress Hardpoint 250-167 through a 27/19 performance from Sib. However, OpTic had a solid lead after the first rotation but it all broke down with Seattle upping the pressure and dominating the map to take back the lead and eventually the map victory. OpTic Texas levelled the series with a strong 6-4 victory on Embassy Search and Destroy. We saw some great snipes from iLLeY and excellent teamwork from the new OpTic roster to close out this map.

Map three was almost dominant from the OpTic Texas roster as they took down Seattle Surge in a 3-1 El Asilo Control. Seattle Surge’s single round came from an excellent offensive performance from them. However, OpTic’s following rounds were great as they closed out the map and took a 2-1 lead in the series. Map four was possibly the quickest map of the night, with Seattle Surge completely dominating OpTic Texas on Hotel Hardpoint. Sib and Pred were unbelievable in this 250-146 victory with Sib putting up 32 kills and a 2.66 K/D while Pred wasn’t far behind with 28 and a 1.86 K/D.

OpTic Texas closed out their first series since Scump’s retirement with a 6-2 Fortress Search and Destroy in game five. OpTic did have a 5-0 lead in this map, however, they stopped the Surge comeback and took the series to go 2-0 in the Qualifiers so far.

Toronto Ultra 3-0 LA Thieves

The LA Thieves had to bring in a substitute due to illness this week. That substitute is Capsidal who replaces Kenny for this week's qualifiers. Capsidal had an excellent start to this series as he led the lobby in kills with 28, however, it was Toronto Ultra whose incredible teamwork saw them take the Mercado Hardpoint 250-241 to go up 1-0 in the series. Toronto Ultra continued to clutch up in the map two Mercado Search and Destroy as they took a dominant 6-1 victory. Scrappy ended the map with an exceptional performance of 11/1 seeing him put up an unbelievable 11.00 K/D in this map as Ultra headed to series point.

This series was over in just about 30 minutes following a 3-0 Hotel Control victory for Toronto Ultra. The squad looked on point as they put up a great performance full of teamwork in this map three to close out the series in a quick and easy 3-0.
