CDL Major 3 Qualifiers – Week 3; Day 1 Recap

Here’s all the action from Week 3; Day 1 of Major 3 Qualifiers.

The Call of Duty League has returned following an eventful Major 2 in Boston. We come back to conclude Major 3 Qualifiers this week, so here’s all the action from the first day of week three. With another three great matches, here’s everything that went down tonight as we started the countdown to Major 3.

Seattle Surge 3-1 London Royal Ravens

Seattle Surge have begun to show improvements recently, and they started this series hot. A 250-147 Hydro Hardpoint victory saw Seattle Surge dominate the first map of this series. Sib and Pred topped the leaderboard with 26 kills each as they held the London Royal Ravens in traps and held down hills with ease. While the Ravens started to make a little comeback, it was too little too late for map one, and they see themselves down 1-0.

Seattle Surge took a 2-0 lead in the series with a clinical 6-1 Embassy Search and Destroy win. Accuracy dominated the map here with a massive 8 kills and a 4.00 K/D, and while this was clean from Surge, the London Royal Ravens just looked completely lost. With no clear gameplan or cohesion between the squad, the Ravens looked lost, and this series looked to be a quick 3-0. Map three in any series is always known as the swing mode, and a clutch victory could turn the tides of any series. Here, the London Royal Ravens did exactly that with a 3-1 Fortress Control victory that saw them clutch up with less than 3 seconds on the clock on both of their offensive wins. A great route from Asim and some multikills from Nastie saw the Ravens take the round four victory on the life count with just 2 seconds left to get back in this series.

While the Ravens had the momentum, Seattle Surge closed out the series with a 250-218 Fortress Hardpoint victory in map four. Sin and Pred dominated with 26 and 29 kills respectively, and while it was a valiant effort from the London Royal Ravens, they were just too slow to break hills and this cost them the map and the series.

Las Vegas Legion 3-2 Minnesota ROKKR

Minnesota ROKKR took a 1-0 lead in this series with a 250-209 Hydro Hardpoint victory. Minnesota ROKKR outslayed by 14 kills here, and they should've closed out the map sooner. However, Las Vegas Legion stayed composed throughout and held their Hardpoints well, but not good enough. Attach led the lobby with 25 kills and a 1.79 K/D as ROKKR took a 1-0 series lead. Las Vegas Legion tied the series 1-1 with a 6-4 Mercado Search and Destroy win. Vegas have been a great team on Mercado Search and Destroy recently, and continue to impress with Clayster gaining streaks on the map, and TJHaly dominating with multiple 3 kill rounds to close out the second map in this series.

Minnesota ROKKR completely dominated the Control in this series, taking a quick and easy 3-0 Hotel victory. Las Vegas Legion had multiple chances to close out rounds here, but they were broken down by Minnesota ROKKR with Attach leading the charge going 18/8 in this map three. Las Vegas Legion pushed us to map five with a strong ending to the map four Mercado Hardpoint. This 250-180 victory saw Clayster close out the map with some clutch kills. However, it was Temp who dominated the map, putting up 24 kills and a 2.00 K/D as we went the distance in this series.

Las Vegas Legion closed out the series with a 3-2 victory following a 6-1 Fortress Search and Destroy win. TJHaly was yet again dominant in this final map of the series, putting up 10 kills and a 2.50 K/D, while Clayster also performed with 8 kills.

Los Angeles Guerrillas 3-2 Florida Mutineers

The Los Angeles Guerrillas were dominant in this map one Hydro Hardpoint. They held hills extremely well and JoeDeceives topped the leaderboard with a massive 35 kills while also having over two minutes of hill time. However, the Florida Mutineers also had players leading the line, with Brack putting up 30 kills and a 1.43 K/D as the Mutineers mounted an incredible comeback and took the map one 250-245.

Map two in this series was just as close as the first, as the Mercado Search and Destroy went the full distance to a round 11. The Los Angeles Guerrillas came out as the winners, with JoeDeceives yet again topping the leaderboard with 10 kills. The map was ended with a three piece where the entire Mutineers team lined up for JoeDeceives, allowing him to take them all out and tie the series 1-1. The Florida Mutineers regained the series lead with a 3-1 Hotel Control victory. Brack and Havok dominated with 25 and 31 kills respectively, seeing them put up 1.67 and 1.63 K/D’s. This was yet again a repeat of the first map, seeing the Los Angeles Guerrillas throw away rounds, and they will definitely be disappointed in their performance here.

The Los Angeles Guerrillas tied the series and sent us to a game five with a 250-239 Fortress Hardpoint victory. This was an extremely close map, but the Los Angeles Guerrillas held onto their lead throughout and managed to close it out to take us the distance in this series. Assault and JoeDeceives topped the leaderboard here with 10 and 9 kills respectively as the Guerrillas finally clutched up when needed to take the series win.
