Toronto Ultra vs Seattle Surge Preview and Predictions: CDL 2023 Major 4 Qualifiers

Toronto Ultra is coming off from a high, while the Seattle Surge is yet to find anything in the 2023 Call of Duty League as Toronto Ultra vs Seattle Surge takes to our screens.

Stage 4 of the 2023 Call of Duty League has officially begun! Six squads butted heads this Friday: Las Vegas Legion managed to beat Boston Breach 3-1 with their newest member, Eli “Standy” Bentz, LA Thieves blew London Royal Ravens off of the maps with a 3-0 victory, while New York Subliners earned a hard-fought win over Atlanta FaZe. However, the Stage 4 Qualifiers have only just begun, so more intense moments are guaranteed!

The Call of Duty League’s only Canadian team are the reigning champions for this event, as they managed to win the Stage 3 Major undefeated: Jamie “Insight” Craven and co. beat New York Subliners 3-1 in the first round, Boston Breach 3-2 in the second round, then knocked Atlanta FaZe down to the losers bracket with a 3-1 victory. In the Finals, they faced off against OpTic Texas, who have fought their way through the lower bracket.

But Toronto Ultra have remained ruthless, and while they dropped 2 maps, they won the series 4-2, becoming the third Major-winners of the Modern Warfare 2 era. This proved yet again that benching Standy and promoting Charlie “Hicksy” Hicks was the right call for the team, as the young Brit has proved to be essential in the rise of Ultra, who have won their first Call of Duty League event since 2021, when they beat Atlanta FaZe in the Black Ops Cold War Stage 2 Major.

Seattle Surge

Seattle Surge are also looking to reclaim their crown after failing to get a Major win since last year’s Stage 3 Major, where they also defeated FaZe 5-3 in order to become the best team of the Stage. Surge was among the few teams which kept their lineup from last year, and they still haven’t swapped anyone, still competing with the roster of Lamar “Accuracy” Abedi, Makenzie “Mack” Kelley, Amer “Pred” Zulbeari and Daunte “Sib” Gray. While they brought Isaiah “Gwinn” Gwinn on as a sub in February, Pred and co. are still going strong. Surge has finished 2^nd in the first Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Major, and while they couldn’t replicate that performance since then, they were the best team in the Stage 3 Qualifiers.

However, that doesn’t mean they can beat the winners of Major 3. The last time Seattle Surge beat Toronto Ultra was at the 2022 CDL Playoffs, where Accuracy and his teammates defeated Ultra 3-1, knocking them out of the last tournament of the Vanguard era. They have played Toronto 2 times since then, but against the new lineup they didn’t fare as well: both during the Stage 1 Qualifiers and the Kickoff Classic, the Canadians have beat Surge 3-1. As Toronto Ultra have only gotten stronger since, we believe that Surge will have a hard match, and ultimately won’t be able to beat their adversaries.
