Toronto Ultra vs Los Angeles Thieves Preview and Predictions: Call of Duty League 2023 Stage 5 Qualifiers

Can Toronto Ultra erase the mistakes of the Stage 4 Major, and rise as high as they did one CDL Stage before?

Stage 5 of the 2023 Call of Duty League starts this weekend! On Friday, OpTic Texas will clash with Las Vegas Legion for one of the most exciting matches of the day, but on Saturday, the winners of the Stage 4 Major get on the server to battle it out with the champions of the Stage 3 Major.

Toronto Ultra vs Los Angeles Thieves Preview

Toronto Ultra

Tobias “CleanX” Juul Jonsson and his team have taken a leap of faith in Stage 4, which didn’t pay off at all. After Toronto Ultra won the Stage 3 Major with the help of Charlie “Hicksy” Hicks, they only won one match in the Stage 4 Qualifiers, which wasn’t a good look for a team which won the Championship before that.

In the Major, they had a bit of a comeback, as Ultra was able to knock Boston Breach and Florida Mutineers out of the competition, while not letting Mutineers score a single point against them. While the squad of Ultra put up a good fight against Atlanta FaZe as well, they ultimately lost, and got eliminated from the tournament.

Los Angeles Thieves

We all know how LAT finished the Stage 4 Major: they won the whole thing undefeated. While in the Qualifiers, Kenneth “Kenny” Williams and his teammates lost to OpTic Texas, they didn’t make the same mistake again in the last Stage.

Los Angeles Thieves beat Minnesota RØKKR in the first round, Atlanta FaZe in the second, then defeated OpTic Texas, who were flawless up until they met the Thieves. While the Texans returned from the Lower Bracket for a rematch, they couldn’t put a dent in the armour of LAT, losing the Call of Duty League Stage 4 Finals 2-4 – while the Thieves bagged their first tournament win since last year’s Champs.

Toronto Ultra vs Los Angeles Thieves Predictions

While Ultra struggled a bit in the last Stage, both teams are unquestionably strong. The players of Toronto are in their element on Control, where they have a 25-11 record, and have only lost 4 out of 17 Control matches played on Hotel. While Los Angeles Thieves don’t have such a dominant record on Control, they are not behind Toronto too much with their 26-14 overall. Also, they won more Hardpoint matches than their opponents, while also having a positive winrate in Search and Destroy. LAT are the favourites of this series, and they can get this W, even if by an inch.
