Seattle Surge vs OpTic Texas Preview and Predictions: Call of Duty League 2023 Stage 5 Qualifiers

OpTic Texas had a perfect Qualifier start (again), while Seattle Surge lost it’s first match – can they bounce back, or will OPTX steamroll through them?

The second week of the Call of Duty League Stage 5 Qualifiers is starting soon! While on the first day, teams will fight for standings in both Stage 5 and the Championship, on May 13th and 14th the Bounty matches will take place – except the Seattle Surge vs OpTic Texas derby, which is sprinkled into the first day of Bounties.

Seattle Surge vs OpTic Texas Preview

Seattle Surge

Lamar “Accuracy” Abedi and his teammates had a self-described slow start to the Stage 5 Major, as they lost their first match 0-3 against Toronto Ultra. They lost by almost a 100 points on Hotel Hardpoint, and on Hotel Control they were blown out of the water. They showed some signs of life on the secound map, as they managed to win 3 rounds on Embassy Search and Destroy – which was far from enough to win the series.

Surge had a rough year so far, as they didn’t really get any high ranking finishes after they made it to the Grand Final of the Stage 1 Major. Hopefully they can bounce back, as they only have one Stage left to lock in for Champs.

OpTic Texas

Are we going to act surprised that Cuyler “Huke” Garland and his teammates have started another CDL Qualifier with a perfect record? I hope not. OpTic Texas are still one of the strongest teams in the League, although they played a bit backwards last weekend. They almost lost against Las Vegas Legion, as after they won 2 and James “Clayster” Eubanks and co. won 2, it all came down to a single Search and Destroy, which they narrowly won by 1 point. Afterwards they faced Atlanta FaZe, who they beat 3-0 in a very dominant fashion, as FaZe only showed up to the SnD round, but steamrolled in both the Hardpoint and the Control matchup.

Hopefully, this wont be another Stage 3 (or Stage 4) for OpTic, where they start out great, make it to the Playoffs’ Grand Finals, then lose 2-4.

Seattle Surge vs OpTic Texas Predictions

Seattle Surge tries to break out of the middle of the Call of Duty League pack, but they are just unable to do so. While their numbers are great, especially Amer “Pred” Zulbeari’s (who has an almost League high Kills per 10 Minutes in all game modes), they just can’t get wins. Their Control and Hardpoint WR’s are alright, but on Search and Destroy, they really struggle.

That can’t be said about the suqad of OpTic, who have a massively positive winrate on SnD, while also having a 43-23 record on Hardpoint. Control is not their strongest feat, but in the Qualifiers, only one Control match is played in a series, and if all else fails, this fact should give OpTic Texas the upper hand.
