G2 Name Swani as Permanent Coach

The reigning Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2023 champions made the announcement a week before starting their Paris Major campaign

G2 are rewarding Jan “Swani” Müller with a permanent position after the former analyst impressed in a six-month interim manager stint. Swani took the reins in October last year following Rémy “XTQZZZ” Quoniam’s departure from the club.

With Swani at the helm, G2 have enjoyed a period of incredible success. The team won two S-tier tournaments – BLAST Premier World Final 2022 and IEM Katowice 2023 – and managed an impressive 13-match winning streak on LAN before finally succumbing to Cloud9 at the ESL Pro League Season 17 Upper-Bracket Semi Finals.

After a brief tenure with FURIA's backroom crew, Swani became an analyst for G2 back in August 2019. Over the following years, he worked his way up the ranks and became the interim manager for the first time in late 2021, when Damien “maLeK” Marcel had left the team. G2 promoted him as XTQZZZ’s second-in-command in January 2022.

Swani was brought back as interim coach until the end of the season following the dismissal of the French coach in October, which happened after G2’s failed IEM Rio qualification bid. He led the team to victory at BLAST Premier World Final and the playoffs of BLAST Premier Fall Final.

G2's winning streak continued after their victory at BLAST Premier World Final in December 2022, as they went on to claim the top spot in the HLTV rankings in early February and hold it for almost three months until Heroic knocked them off their perch.

With the European RMR behind them, G2's international team is now focused on the upcoming BLAST.tv Paris Major. They've qualified for the Challengers Stage and are set to face off against TheMongolz on May 8, which will be Swani’s first match as the permanent G2 coach.
