Los Angeles Thieves vs Minnesota RØKKR could be the Stage 4 Major champs first win of Stage 5 – which is not a great outlook for the team.

The last week of the 2023 Call of Duty League Stage 5 Qualifiers is approaching! So far, only OpTic Texas is flawless, closely followed by Atlanta FaZe in terms of standings. On the other end of the spectrum sit the London Royal Ravens, who have been unable to secure a victory so far – alongside the Los Angeles Thieves, the winners of the last CDL Major.

Kenneth “Kenny” Williams and co. have continued the curse that Toronto Ultra was a victim of as well: after a team wins a CDL Major, they are unable to perform in the next Stage. Ultra won Major III, then fluked out of Major 4 – which was won by LAT, but now, they can’t seem to get a single win.

In Week 1, they suffered a 1-3 defeat at the hands of Toronto Ultra, and they barely won their only match, only getting 6 points more than Toronto on Fortress Hardpoint. Afterwards, they almost managed to score a win against NYSL, but the New Yorkers were able to pull through with a 3-2 triumph. But the real low blow was the loss against Florida Mutineers, who managed to stay in the run for Champs after beating LAT.

Minnesota RØKKR

The squad of RØKKR don’t have a much better standing than Kenny and his teammates. Marcus “Afro” Reid and his squad have steamrolled over the London Royal Ravens in their first match of Stage 5, beating the European team 3-0. Afterwards, however, they lost to Boston Breach 1-3 on that same day, barely winning the Hotel Search and Destroy by 1 point.

In the second week, they played a Bounty Match against Las Vegas Legion, but found no success, losing the $10,000 prize. While at one point they lead the series 2-1, LVL managed to turn it all around, winning the showdown. However, RØKKR is still at 8^th place with 160 points in the run for Champs, so it’ll all come down to Major V.

While the Los Angeles Thieves were not at the top of their game in the last two weeks, Kenny and his teammates haven’t lost to RØKKR this year. Moreover, they beat the Minnesotans 3-0 4 times in a row: in the Stage 2 Major, the Stage 3 Qualifiers, then Major, and in the Stage 4 Qualifiers. Afro and co. managed to score the first map win against them in Stage 4 Major, but they lost that match 1-3 as well – which means they have a slim chance of beating them this time around.
