Old G Out of DPC WEU 2023 Tour 2 Division II Due to Rule Violations

The team was disqualified from the division after failing to find a valid roster in time to play in the tiebreakers

Old G's journey in the DPC WEU 2023 Tour 2: Division II ended on a sour note, as they missed out on a top 2 spot and failed to secure promotion to Division I. Now, they will be disqualified from the division altogether as they failed to assemble a team in time to play against PuckChump in the tiebreakers. The team needed to play in the tiebreakers to retain their place in the division, but since they could not play, they will suffer elimination. Old G did not have enough players available as two of their players, Roman “Resolut1on” Fomynok and Kartik “Kitrak” Rathi, are playing as stand-ins for other teams at the Berlin Major 2023.

What Do The Rules Say?

The WEU DPC organizers, PGL, have provided clarification regarding Old G's disqualification. The tournament rules state that only one substituted player per match is allowed, and Old G had violated this rule. The organization says that it had shared the schedule with the players on March 23 and gave them the rulebook five days later, which explicitly stated that teams cannot make two subs in a match.

OG breached the rulebook when they had to make two subs for Resolut1on and Kitrak, who were away on stand-in duties for BetBoom and OG, respectively for playing against PuckChump. Resolut1on is currently standing in for BetBoom's Pure, while Kitrak is filling in for OG's Chu, both of whom were unable to secure visas for the Berlin Major.

In a tweet, Old G player Sébastien “Ceb” Debs voiced his discontent with the decision and called out PGL and an administrator for their lack of concern and assistance in the matter.

The disqualification of Old G puts an end to the team's campaign in the DPC WEU 2023 Tour 2 Division II. While D2 Hustlers and Team Secret progress to Division I, Old G and Ivy are eliminated from the DPC. Both teams, however, will have another chance to play in the next tour by participating in open qualifiers.
