Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen, who recently left Old G to join PuckChamps, discusses his former team’s underwhelming DPC 2023 Tour 2 campaign 

Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen and the Old G team have garnered significant attention following their recent acquisition of PuckChamp's Division II slot in the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) Western Europe (WEU) 2023, following their disqualification from closed qualifiers. Old G landed in closed qualifiers after a lackluster performance during Tour 2, securing just two wins out of seven matches. Topson revealed that the team struggled to function as a cohesive unit, with players operating more as individuals.

Topson made an appearance on OG's Monkey Business show after the ESL One Berlin Major 2023, where he shed light on the team's failure in Tour 2. Beyond recognizing the deficiency in team chemistry, he placed particular emphasis on their inadequate grasp of the meta and the rising level of competition as explanations for their lackluster showing.

“I think our idea of the meta and just as a team, we didn’t really gel together. I think you got to have some kind of bootcamp or talk more together, really get to know each other. If it doesn’t click right away, then you at least have to put in more time together like talking a lot. You actually have to talk a lot if you want to get on the same page. The competition is definitely much stronger. It’s not enough if you are just individually good. You have to be a good team.”

The team faced a high-stakes tiebreaker with PuckChamp, a match that would determine whether they could stay in Division II. Unfortunately, due to the absence of Resolut1on and Kitrak, who were temporarily playing for BetBoom Team and OG at the Berlin Major, the team was disqualified, ending their campaign in Tour 2.

Old G, particularly Ceb, voiced their dissatisfaction with PGL’s ruling online. In response, PGL revoked the team’s closed qualifier spot to punish Old G. The organization accused Old G of violating rules of conduct, which included making threats toward members of the PGL admin team and subjecting them to public harassment.

In light of PGL's announcement, Ceb and his team made a decisive move by registering themselves on the Dota 2 Majors Registration Page as members of PuckChamp's roster. Notably, Resolut1on stepped aside, allowing for the inclusion of Adam “Aramis” Moroz. While specific details regarding the acquisition remain undisclosed, it is widely speculated that the team acquired the slot, potentially through a purchase arrangement with PuckChamp.
