2023 LCS Spring Playoffs Will Kick Off With a Prince vs. Doublelift Grudge Match

LCS Spring Playoffs start on March 23 as 100 Thieves takes on FlyQuest.
The Spring Split of the LCS saw one of the most exciting finishes in recent history. Coming into the last day of the regular season, there was a possibility of five tiebreaker games to be played at the end of the day. While the fans did not get the maximum number of the games due to some of the results, they still saw three important tiebreakers, one of them between Cloud9 and FlyQuest for the first-place finish. Cloud9 won this final game over Fly thanks to an amazing Draven performance from Kim “Berserker” Min-cheol.
Another big surprise in the day was 100 Thieves, who found themselves in a three-way tie with Evil Geniuses and CLG after a 3-0 Superweek. The Thieves managed to win both their extra games, cementing themselves as the third seed even after a mid-split slump. 100T and Yiliang “Peter” “Doublelift” Peng will face FlyQuest and Lee “Prince” Chae-hwan in their face playoff series. While rivals on the Rift, the two bot laners had a wholesome moment outside the game early on in the season. After their first game, Doublelift and Prince swapped jerseys, with Prince not being able to hold back tears of joy as he met the veteran player he looked up to.
On the other side of the bracket, one of the leading title favorites Cloud9 will face Counter Logic Gaming. Despite their dominant second half of the regular season, CLG won’t be an easy opponent for Cloud9 as they weren’t when they clashed on the last day of Superweek. CLG dominated the heavily favored Cloud9 in that game while breaking their seven-game win streak. CLG was also the team that gave the most trouble to Cloud9 during their championship run in the 2022 LCS Summer Playoffs.
These four teams have the advantage of a second life if they lose their first series, while Golden Guardians and Evil Geniuses who are waiting for their matchups in the Lower Bracket will have to play for their tournament lives from the first Bo5. Another big reminder is thanks to the global format changes, all major regions will send two teams to the Mid-Season Invitational this year. So making it to the Finals is extra important, as the runner-up prize is a ticket to the MSI 2023 in London.
