Fnatic vs MAD Lions Preview: LEC 2023 Spring Groups

Fallen from grace, two embattled LEC teams meet on the Group Stage to change their fate in this transatlantic Spring Split match-up with Fnatic vs MAD Lions.

In a surprising turn of events, MAD didn't do so well this split. Being a team that clawed their way up last split's playoffs for the runner-up spot, you'd never expect them to just barely make it into Spring Groups. Against them is Fnatic, who's been one the up and up again after a disastrous Winter Season. The stakes have never been higher for these teams, as both will need to rely on every bit of their expertise to stay in the game.  If you're going to bet on the LEC this season, this MAD Lions vs. Fnatic preview is for you.

Fnatic vs MAD Lions Preview

Fnatic

The black and orange roster sports industry titans like Rekkles and Humanoid, who have multiple World Championship titles under their belt. Additionally, the organization recently promoted promising players Henk “Advienne” Reijenga and Óscar “Oscarinin” Muñoz Jiménez from Fnatic TQ to bolster the current LEC roster.

The team has seen some improvement to their overall form as compared to their lacking performance in Winter 2023. Regardless, Fnatic feels like they're still trying to get a feel for their new composition. Just recently, they stretched their fight with Team Astralis to a complete best-of-3 (bo3) series due to good set-ups that led to multikills for their ADC. But  despite losing the fight, they still have a chance to go toe-to-toe with the best if they escape the loser's bracket.

Fnatic Roster

  • Óscar “Oscarinin” Muñoz Jiménez
  • Iván “Razork” Martín Díaz
  • Marek “Humanoid” Brázda
  • Carl Martin Erik “Rekkles” Larsson
  • Henk “Advienne” Reijenga

Player To Watch

Humanoid was once considered the strongest midlaner in the LEC and has represented his region in Worlds so many times in the past.

MAD Lions

The MAD Lions had a strong start to their Spring Split before they suffered a brutal losing streak that began in their bo1 against EXCEL. From then, Nisqy and co. were only able to eke out a couple of wins. Consequently, their lackluster performance jeopardized their spot in Groups, leading to  a tense tiebreaker match against Team Heretics for 8th place.

MAD's specialty involves jungle control and aggressive early games. Unfortunately, their foes have managed to capitalize on their predictability by isolating their carries.

MAD Lions Roster

  • Kim “Chasy” Dong-hyeon
  • Javier “Elyoya” Prades Batalla
  • Yasin “Nisqy” Dinçer
  • Matyáš “Carzzy” Orság
  • Zdravets “Hylissang” Iliev Galabov

Player To Watch

Keep your eyes on Elyoya when he ganks the lanes.

MAD Lions vs Fnatic Predictions

MAD's chances of overtaking a team with weaker form will depend on the confidence in their plays. But seeing as they've been slipping, Fnatic's victory is likely going to come from a full bo3 series.
