G2 Esports vs KOI Preview and Predictions: LEC 2023 Spring Groups

G2 Esports vs KOI: Rasmus “Caps” Winther and his team has a chance to take revenge for the first round of Groups – will they be able to pull through?

The last match of the 2023 LEC Spring Group Stage is rapidly approaching! In one corner of the octagon stands G2 Esports, who have everything to prove, as they are on the brink of getting knocked out while being the Winter Champions; in the other corner is KOI, who have managed to beat G2 once this Group Stage but have looked shaky ever since the start of the 2023 Season. One of them will take the last spot of the Top 4, while the other will get a long vacation until the end of MSI 2023.

G2 Esports vs KOI Preview

G2 Esports

The most successful organisation in the history of the LEC and reigning Champions G2 Esports are a rare sight to be seen on a lower bracket. However, Caps and co. have failed to beat KOI in the first round of Group B, after failing the secure first place (or second) place in the Regular Season. While they are still one of the most entertaining teams around, sometimes they outright refuse to play the meta, which have worked wonders for them in Winter, but backfired in Spring on several occasions.

G2 Esports vs KOI Midlaner of G2, Caps

They lost their first match 1-2 against KOI, after Sergen “BrokenBlade” Celik had one stellar, and one lackluster performance on Pantheon toplane, and while the Kings of Europe tried to salvage as much as they could, they were unable to secure the third match. However, G2 didn’t take the loss too hard, as they played an incredibly dominant series against SK Gaming, beating the youngsters 2-0.

KOI

While KOI managed to beat G2 in the Spring Regular Split, it was still a surprise to see Emil “Larssen” Larsson and his teammates knock their opponents down to the loser’s bracket. In spite of that victory, KOI haven’t been doing so well this year, even though they managed to get to Top 4 in Winter. The loss of Andrei “Odoamne” Pascu has hit them harder than anyone predicted, with Mathias “Szygenda” Jensen stepping up here and there, but ultimately not being as a reliable weaksider as Odo was.

Nevertheless, KOI have become better at integrating their young toplaner into the team, sometimes even letting him play carry Champions instead of weakside picks! Sadly, that didn’t help them win a single match against Team BDS in the Qualification Match, so now they have to beat G2 Esports again.

G2 Esports vs KOI Predictions

KOI definitely have the upper hand against G2 Esports now, as they have proved to be able to take them on on multiple occasions. That doesn’t mean Steven “Hans sama” Liv and his team can’t get their first victory against the Spanish organisation, it’s just that maybe it’s time for them to take a step back, and play a little more conservatively. But will they be able to beat KOI on their own turf now, that Szygenda is taking an active part in the victories for the team? Probably not, just like in Round 1 of Group Stage.
