Massive LoL Item Changes Hit the PBE Servers, Expected To Go Live on Patch 13.10

LoL patch 13.10 is shaping up to be a pseudo-preseason.

After a string of underwhelming patches, Riot just last week promised a massive mid-season patch that would shake up the game, especially the Mythic Items. There weren’t a lot of details in the dev blog except learning that the balance team was changing their approach toward Mythics, maybe even considering removing them altogether.

The wait didn’t last long as Riot went live with the updated items on their test server, Public Beta Environment. While not all items, or even items of all classes, aren’t getting changes, the shake-up is pretty big that it resembles a preseason patch. Over 40 items or item components are either getting reworked or adjusted with the changes, the main focus being ADC, support and Lethality items. Players can check out and test the changes, which are planned to go live in two weeks with patch 13.10, on the PBE server.

Item changes aren’t the only ones though. There are a lot of system changes included in the patch, and some of them are massive. Teleport summoner spell is now closer to its original state with the Unleash Teleport upgrade time now being 10 minutes. In return taking plates will be harder so teleporting laners aren’t punished too hard, and also to help slow snowballing games. Turrets will now have a lot more resistances as players take plates.

But maybe the biggest and most controversial change of the patch is the new minion behavior. In patch 13.10, mid lane minions will meet at the same time as side lanes till the 14 minutes with the exception of the very first wave. Multiple community figures, pro players and analysts online protested this change specifically, saying it would hurt pushing waves and moving toward side lanes. Since the changes are currently on PBE, Riot still has time to make any adjustments or revert them, but there is no indication of such an action yet.

Marksmen item changes

AD Carries are currently in the strongest state they’ve been in for a couple of years. But despite how strong they are and how powerful the items themselves are, itemizing as an ADC can still feel too limiting. Nearly every ADC has to make two key choices, which Mythic they will get and which crit modifier they need to buy. With the item changes this problem is going away as the crit modifiers are now Mythic items, and players now have more choices for their second or third items.

Aside from that there are a lot of adjustments to Legendary items. Some of those are changed because they were overperforming, like Bloodthirster, and some of them because they didn’t see much use, like Stormrazor. Also, mixed damage is now back with Guinsoo’s Rageblade reverted to its old state, along with a lot of magic damage on marksmen items. To maybe encourage players to shift toward on-hit builds with Guinsoo’s, some ranged carries now have AP ratios on their kits.

Support item changes

Couple of massive changes for supports in patch 13.10. First of all, Unholy Grail is back as promised with a new look as Echoes of Helia. The Grail was one of the most popular enchanter items in the game, but Riot had removed it from the game with the first Mythic Item update as it would be the only Mythic supports would choose. Echoes of Helia isn’t as powerful as Unholy Grail, but it is still a welcomed new addition.

On top of Echoes of Helia, and some other new items, Riot also adjusted nearly every support item. Almost every item got a price reduction while sacrificing some base stats, but it should feel better overall as it was very hard to reach two or three items in the game in this snowbally meta.
