DetonatioN FocusMe vs LOUD Preview and Predictions: Mid-Season Invitational 2023

Both teams suffered an 0-2 loss on the first day of the MSI, but which one will rise to the challenge, and which will say goodbye?

This Tuesday, the 2023 Mid-Season Invitational finally started, and the strongest League of Legends teams in the world have started their journey. We are still in the Play-In Stage of the tournament, fighting for the last 3 spots of the Bracket Stage – or fighting against elimination, such as CBLOL winners LOUD and Japanese Champions DetonatioN FocusMe.

As per usual, DFM won the LJL, representing Japan in the international competition of 2023. The only difference from previous years is that their most recognizable player, Shunsuke “Evi” Murase is not with them, as he left for the LEC, while DFM signed Haruki “tol2” Shibata in his place. Other than the change in toplane, DFM is the same as ever, as they managed to get Lee “Aria” Ga-eul back from the LCK.

With this squad, DetonatioN FocusMe dominated the LJL, only losing a match to SoftBank HAWKS and Sengoku Gaming in the Regular Season. They started the Playoffs from Round 2, winning both their series 3-0, taking revenge on both the Hawks and the players of Sengoku.

However, they couldn’t get a single point against PSG Talon in the first Bo3 of this year’s MSI: in the opening match, they lost in 30 minutes while being more than 15 thousand gold behind, as tol2 failed to land some crucial Malphite ultimates. While in the 2nd match, they were able to get a sizeable lead, they couldn’t close the game, so PSG Talon banished them to the Loser’s Bracket – will they be able to stand up?

LOUD

The winners of the CBLOL had a similar experience on the first day of MSI. They faced the 2nd seed of the LEC, G2 Esports, but the Brazilian squad was not scared the slightest. They had a great early game against Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther and his team in the first match, but akin to DFM, couldn’t seal the deal, and they got stomped by almost the same composition in the second round.

Nevertheless, Leonardo “Robo” Souza and his teammates have dominated the Brazilian League of Legends tournament: after just 2 years of LOUD joining the competition, they finished this year’s Spring Split second with a 12-6 standing, then went on to win the Playoffs beating Los Grandes and paiN Gaming 3-1, then beating paiN again in the finals, but this time without dropping a game.

DetonatioN FocusMe vs LOUD Predictions

While both teams lost their first series, LOUD were a bit more convincing – or rather, they didn’t throw an almost 10 thousand gold lead like DFM did against PSG Talon. While the Brazilian team lost their second match in almost under 20 minutes, they are in no sense a weak team – and if they can get Moon “Route” Geom-su rolling, they could get the win. The midlane is another point of interest in the upcoming match, the battle of Thiago “tinowns” Sartori and Aria will be a sight to behold.
