G2 Esports vs MAD Lions will be a battle of redemption arcs, as both teams have suffered devastating losses earlier this week, and now they have to face each other to avoid elimination.

Our Previews and Predictions for the MSI are getting less frequent, as the first round of Round 1 of the Mid-Season Invitational Bracket Stage is coming to an end, as this weekend, two teams will say goodbye to the first international League of Legends event of 2023. Sadly, one of the EMEA seeds will have to go, as MAD Lions and G2 Esports face each other this Saturday.

The squad of Sergen “BrokenBlade” Celik and G2 were the better of the two representatives of the LEC, as they got at least one victory against the winners of the LCK, Gen.G After G2 Esports breezed through the Play-In stage with picks such as Nautilus, Nidalee, Poppy and Kha’Zix, fans of the team were sure that the most decorated team of Europe will have a shot against one of the strongest teams in the world.

Sadly, they couldn’t be more wrong, as G2 Esports fought an impossible battle against Kim “Peyz” Su-hwan and Gen.G. In the first two matches, the botlane of G2 Esports were completely gapped, alongside Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther in the midlane. While they managed to find a win in Game 3, this only angered the Korean Champions, who made short work of G2 in Game 4.

But G2 Esports can say that they weren’t blown out of the water as hard and as far as MAD Lions was. While Javier “Elyoya” Prades Batalla and co. have started out in a dominant fashion in the laning phase of Game 1 against the legendary Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok and T1, their hopes quickly crumbled as the T1 played the teamfights almost perfectly.

Even though they lost, MAD Lions showed promise in the first match, and they still had 4 chances to redeem themselves. However, they T1 upped the tempo, beating MAD Lions in 24 minutes the second time around, then sealed the deal with a match that only lasted 16 minutes and 50 seconds, becoming the second shortest international League of Legends match ever (the first one lasted for 16:01, where Invictus Gaming destroyed T1 in the 2019 MSI).

While both of the teams got defeated, MAD Lions were significantly worse than G2 Esports. G2 weren’t very creative against Gen.G, but MAD seemed like they didn’t even want to play Games 2 and 3. But the match against each other will be to avoid elimination, and G2 Esports seem to be the favourites in this matchup. While MAD Lions beat them on their way to the LEC Spring Finals, they needed 5 matches to do so, while Caps and co. swept Yasin “Nisqy” Dincer and his teammates in 3 quick matches back in Winter. If G2 can get back in form, they should be able to take down MAD Lions – but we’ve seen the Spanish team make a comeback on more than one occasion.
