The best options in CSGO for your screen resolution.

People who want to be successful in CSGO know that they will have to invest a lot of time and effort. Besides picking the most appropriate gaming gear, players also have make sure they’re using the optimal settings. This also includes the resolution, which is why we’re about to share more information about it in this guide.

Before we dive into the things you should know about the CSGO resolution, we’d like to remind you that ESTNN has many other guides to choose from. We can also provide you with some of the hottest CSGO betting sites known for their high odds and many markets.

Old-school Counter-Strike players probably remember that pretty much everyone used a lower resolution while in CS 1.6 and the other versions of the game. There were many reasons for it, including the fact that monitors back then were simply not as good as today.

Of course, things will be different in 2023 because we can access all kinds of monitors. The 1920×1080 16:9 resolution is considered the industry’s standard, but many players are using monitors with much higher resolutions.

Besides the resolution itself, one of the most important things to remember is the aspect ratio. Choosing between 16:9 and 4:3 will make a lot of difference when it comes down to things you can see. Some people also use things like 5:4, 16:10, and others.

Of course, the higher the aspect ratio, the better because you can actually see more things. Yet, many of the best players in the world use a lower aspect ratio because they feel like it helps them perform better.

Speaking of performance, the lower aspect ratio means that you will get a massive FPS boost. People with excellent CPUs and GPUs shouldn’t have FPS difficulties, but this doesn’t apply to those with lower-end devices. Hence, they prefer to use the lower aspect ratio so that they can get the most FPS possible.

Other benefits of using a lower aspect ratio

Roles in CS:GO

Besides the fact that you get an FPS boost, there are other benefits of using a lower aspect ratio, such as 4:3. Once you do that on a modern monitor, you will see black bars on the left and right sides. Although it may not look visually appealing, this will help you concentrate more on the action.

Lowering your aspect ratio will also make the models on your screen look larger. This won’t have any direct impact on the game in terms of being easier to hit your enemies. However, it makes their models look slightly larger, meaning that you feel like it is easier to land  your shots.

Experiment with what you like

In the end, every CSGO player is different, so the fact that something works for someone doesn’t mean it will work for another player. Most old-school CSGO players are fans of the lower res and aspect ratio because they’re used to it from CS 1.6. However, most new players prefer using their native resolution, so they often go for Full HD.

As mentioned, both have pros and cons, so the best thing you can do is test them and see which one you like. You can always change it to something else, so remember.

An important thing you should remember is that the higher resolutions will make the CSGO skins way more appealing. This may not be important for some of you, but others will probably want the best skins possible.

Popular resolutions

We’ve already discussed some of the most popular resolutions you can choose from throughout the article. With that said, here is a list of some of them:

  • 1920×1080
  • 1600×1200
  • 1024×768
  • 1280×960

Some of the options you can see above are only available in a 16:9 aspect ratio, whereas others will only work if you use them on a 4:3 aspect ratio. As mentioned, both have their pros and cons, so you have to decide which one works best for you.

Setting up a custom resolution

Despite the fact that the CSGO client offers all kinds of resolutions you can choose from, some people might not be interested in them. The good news is that you don’t need to use something you don’t like because there is a way to create your own custom resolution.

As you can imagine, this process can be slightly different, depending on your GPU. We won’t go into details because some GPUs are slightly more specific than others, so make sure to learn more about the process by watching videos about your specific GPU.
