Hogwarts Legacy: Tips and Tricks for New Players

Here are a few simple tips and tricks to get you started in your journey around Hogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Legacy Twitch drops (before February 24th)

Head over to Hogwarts Legacy's Twitch page to get started. These four exclusive items can give you some fantastic early clothing options to play with. Simply watch a streamer playing Hogwarts Legacy with Twitch Drops enabled on Twitch (30 minutes per drop). You’ll be able to identify a channel with drops enabled as you’ll see a callout message located at the top of the Stream Chat. The best part is, you don't even need to own Hogwarts Legacy to claim the drops. They'll be waiting for you when you finally decide to step inside. The four drops are:

  • Silver Dragon-Eyed Spectacles – Facewear Cosmetic.
  • Urchin Hat – Headwear Cosmetic
  • Carmine Lightning Bolt Scarf – Neckwear Cosmetic
  • Lilac Ensemble – Outfit Cosmetic

Save those coins (Galleons)

At the start, money might be a little tight. This will calm down later into the game, however, don't get throwing your coin around all willy-nilly at the start. With the exception of a few essential purchases, most merchants in Hogwarts Legacy have prices that are excessively high. However, there are some small expenses that must be paid to make progress, such as planting seeds and summoning spells. Oh, and if you need to know where to sell, there are plenty of them in and around Hogsmeade willing to take your old crap off your hands.

Out with the old, in with the new (replace gear)

Inventory space isn't plentiful in the wizarding world. So, when you get a new piece of gear that's better than what you have, replace the old and sell it. Especially, as we mentioned above, gold is a bit of an issue in the early periods of the game. So, any old gear just gathering dust is hurting you in the short term.

Do Merlin Trials for more space

Following on from the previous point, if you need more space, the Merlin Puzzles are your friends here.

Focus on the story, at least at the start.

It's always tricky in an RPG to know precisely when the open world is opened up. Is it after the tutorial, or do I need to complete chapter one first? In Hogwarts Legacy, most of this is going to come down to “do I have the tools for the job yet”. For that, you need to get that story moved along. There's not an exact moment, but we'd suggest giving it a few hours before you rush off and do too many side quests.

Get those fast travel locations

We all love an excellent open-world game. But what we love more is when we can quickly jump around the place when we like. Thankfully, Hogwarts Legacy has those, and you'll want to find them. This gets a lot easier once you unlock the broom.

Hogwarts Legacy Tips and tricks

Transmog your look

We all know that once you mastered the magic, it's all about how you look doing it. Thankfully, Hogwarts Legacy has a transmog system to help you out. Simply select Change Appearance and you're good to go.

Use Revelio, a lot

Revelio is probably the best spell in your arsenal. Primarily, it'll help you find hidden objects or interactable items. You'll find puzzles (blue), ingredients (yellow) and even Field Guide pages will become visible to you.

Change the time of day, if you like

Fancy walking the grounds of Hogwarts at night, you can! Just open the map and change away to your heart's content.

Explore the world

Another part of the previous point is to explore the world. 90% of you are here because you love Hogwarts and its world; so explore it, get lost and find new secrets. This is especially true once you get a broom, and you can fly all over the massive map.

Yes, there's fall damage

It's an essential step in many RPGs and video games in general. After “can I jump”, comes, “will I die if I jump off that”. The answer is yes, probably. The game does actively try to stop you from hurling yourself off cliffs, thankfully. Though it is possible, and you will do.
