2023 LCS Spring Split Week 4 Day 3: FlyQuest Bounce Back With a Win as a Birthday Gift for Spica

FlyQuest closes out the first round robin of the LCS Spring in the first place with an 8-1 record.

To close out the 2023 LCS Spring’s first Superweek, FlyQuest were trying to recover from their first loss against a red-hot CLG, who were looking to close out the first round robin with a positive record. CLG were not alone in their position, as three more teams came into the day with a 4-4 record. Both TSM and GG had a great week, the former beating FlyQuest yesterday and the Guardians on a four-game win streak. Unfortunately for 100T, they lost both their games in Superweek and were looking for a last-day redemption.

With the Superweek on the 13.3 patch, we’ve also seen many interesting picks throughout the week, the biggest being Annie returning to pro play, but this time as a support. There were also some former fan favorites making appearances on the Rift such as Jarvan IV, Thresh and Aphelios.

CLG vs FLY

FLY started the game with an invade to limit the early opportunities for the enemy jungler, but Contractz still found successful ganks on both sides of the map and managed to get early kills for his team. On the other hand, VicLa was becoming more and more of a threat as he got ahead due to the invade and a couple of kills he got at the first Herald. CLG tried to answer the split pushing from FLY, but they had a rough time dealing with VicLa’s Yone and had to give up a very early Ocean Soul and a Baron.

Still, FLY wasn’t able to put the game to rest due to some overzealous plays. They had to wait for the second Baron spawn and looked to fight the enemy near the objective. They had a great turn and decimated CLG, giving a victory to Spica on his birthday.

  • Teams: CLG 0 – 1 FLY
  • Time: 29:34
  • Kills: 8 – 12
  • Turrets: 2 – 9
  • Gold: 51.9k – 58k
  • Dragons: 0 – 4
  • Barons: 0 – 1

IMT vs EG

A very slow early game with only a couple of ganks not resulting in any kills. Both teams were content to trade the first objectives and just farm for the time being. So with no significant lead for either side, we had to wait for the first fight of the game. The fight itself went to EG’s way after Tactical flashed in very aggressively and died trading a kill. Finding the slimmest lead from that moment, EG started to push the tempo to the max and challenged IMT all around the Rift, whose members kept getting caught one by one at the side lanes.

Tactical almost turned some fights around for IMT, but nothing beyond some close calls. With the IMT solo laners falling quite behind, EG did not have trouble securing the big objectives on the map and extending their gold lead to over 10k. It took EG two Barons to crack the enemy base, but they eventually managed to break through and force their way to a victory.

  • Teams: IMT 0 – 1 EG
  • Time: 32:51
  • Kills: 2 – 17
  • Turrets: 3 – 11
  • Gold: 51k – 65.4k
  • Dragons: 2 – 3
  • Barons: 0 – 2

C9 vs TL

After a rough game yesterday, Pyosik had a dominating early game. He got the first blood in the bot lane with a level three dive and found multiple ganks utilizing the early power of Elise. TL took every major objective except the first drake and controlled the map vision using their bot lane and jungle leads. But as we saw multiple times throughout this Superweek, it is really hard to outfight C9, especially when they have the right comp. They found a great 5v5 angle when TL wanted to secure their Soul points, and the winning fight led to a Baron for C9.

After C9 took their first Baron the control of the game changed hands, along with the gold lead. It looked like the game would be decided on the Soul fight, but TL took another bad fight around the Baron. Once that one was lost, the game itself followed.

  • Teams: C9 1 – 0 TL
  • Time: 41:27
  • Kills: 13 – 9
  • Turrets: 9 – 4
  • Gold: 76.3k – 68.3k
  • Dragons: 3 – 3
  • Barons: 3 – 0

DIG vs TSM

A bit of a slow start to the game as both teams couldn’t find any success in their early game plays. Still, TSM started stacking drakes early on for a quick Soul. And once the mid game hit, TSM mid/jungle/support trio was out in full force. They took control of the map by finding overextended DIG members, and even without too many kills on the board, TSM managed to extend their gold lead to 5k in no time. With their lead established, TSM gave no chance of coming back into the game to DIG. They took the Soul, the Baron and started sieging. DIG took one last fight in their base, but it was too late at this point, and TSM ended the game without giving away any kills to their opponents.

  • Teams: DIG 0 – 1 TSM
  • Time: 31:51
  • Kills: 0 – 9
  • Turrets: 4 – 11
  • Gold: 48.9k – 59.7k
  • Dragons: 0 – 4
  • Barons: 0 – 2

GG vs 100T

Great pre-game planning by 100T as they invaded River’s bot side level one and then punished the GG bot lane with the pressure they got. But even with 100T finding a couple of kills on Doublelift, River recovered very well from the early game. He found multiple ganks for his bot lane, getting Stixxay his own kills, and even secured the first drake and the Herald. And when the clock hit 20 minutes it was once again River finding Bjergsen to start a fight. After nearly acing 100T, GG took a very early Baron.

100T was able to delay the Dragon Soul of their opponents, so the game went on a little bit longer, but time and time after again River was able to find the necessary engage. The last one came during the Soul fight, and once GG killed Bjergsen it was easy for them to chase down the rest of the 100T and extend their win streak to five.

  • Teams: GG 1 – 0 100T
  • Time: 34:22
  • Kills: 12 – 7
  • Turrets: 10 – 2
  • Gold: 62.9k – 52.5k
  • Dragons: 2 – 3
  • Barons: 2 – 0
