2023 LCS Spring Split Week 6 Day 1: EG Finds the Victory Over TSM in the WildTurtle’s Return to LCS

Roster changes continue in the LCS even as we get closer and closer to the playoffs.

The 2023 LCS Spring had a lot of roster shuffling so far, whether it is due to players joining late because of visa issues, unsatisfying performances or personal issues. We already had some high-profile roster changes like Gori and Eyla joining their teams late, Tomo and EMENES swapping in for Spawn and Diplex. In Week 6, two new players will make their first starts of the season.

Immortals mid laner Ablazeolive announced that he will take the rest of the split off at the start of the week. IMT Challengers mid laner Bolulu started in his place. While Bolulu is a new face in North America, he is familiar with many players in the league, as he used to be teammates with his support Fleshy and the top laner of DIG, Armut, who they played today. The next big change was TSM promoting WildTurtle, another veteran ADC making his return after Doublelift and Stixxay.

Also to note, LCS switched to the 13.4 patch for Week 6 which means the reworked Aurelion Sol was available to play, and he was picked in the first game of the day by the CLG mid laner Palafox as a counter pick to Annie. The Star Forger stayed a popular pick throughout the day.

FLY vs CLG

With the Aurelion Sol pick from CLG, it seemed like the game plan was to wait for the dragon to scale toward the late game. Unfortunately for them, FLY had no intent to let it happen. The early game was dominated by Spica making play after play in the side lanes. Not to mention the former MVP managed to steal the first Herald after a disastrous fight for CLG. When the plates fell, FLY had an advantage of two drakes and 6k gold.

CLG tried to force a couple of fights, but FLY was too far ahead damage wise and engages did not go well, even when they found an angle for a 4v5. Still, CLG didn’t give up as Palafox stole the first Baron from FLY and they won the fourth drake fight to delay the opponent Soul. But these plays only delayed the inevitable as the gold lead was too big to overcome as FLY was still ahead nearly 10k when the Elder spawned. And FLY didn’t even need the drake after they found four kills with a great engage from Eyla, and managed to close out the game.

TSM vs EG

A good start for TSM in the WildTurtle’s LCS return, even though they were playing toward the top side. After finding two early kills from a failed EG invade, they took control of the first Herald. EG was at least able to answer at the opposite side of the Rift with an early first drake. The game was looking even through the mid game, but all it took to change it was one Thresh lantern from Vulcan during the TSM’s mid lane engage, and the game exploded for EG with a Quadrakill for Jojo’s Akali.

But even with the lead Jojo and FBI got from this fight, TSM managed to hold on to the game till the Elder buff, and nearly aced EG after catching the enemy ADC out of position, securing themselves the big objective. With the gold even at that point, the game came down to a classic NA ARAM 5v5. Thankfully for EG, Jojo was able to find a good flank and managed to secure another win, albeit another sloppy one.

100T vs C9

Two very different team comps in Game 3 with 100T going full scaling while C9 opted into early game aggression with the Elise/Yone mid duo. Despite not being able to find too many early kills, C9 still did a good job finding nearly 4k gold lead by controlling the objectives and taking plates. With that lead, C9 did not take their foot off the gas, taking advantage of the 100T’s team comp not being able to fight back. They hunted for kills around the map and continued their snowball. They didn’t give a chance to 100T to contest the Baron or any drakes. With a 15k gold lead at 20 minutes, C9 just walked into the 100T base and ended one of the most dominating games of the 2023 LCS Spring.

GG vs TL

Very slow game from both teams at the start. The first blood came after minute 10 when Pyosik visited the top lane for the third time. There wasn’t a significant amount of action with teams content on trading some objectives and some kills, but TL had a somewhat big gold lead thanks to Summit being ahead in the top lane. And once Summit started grouping, the fights became much easier for TL. GG could only find a kill or two before getting run down and they had to give up a Baron and most of their base. Without River being able to make any plays, GG did not have their biggest advantage, and they were stuck in their base. After finding Licorice and River overextended, TL secured one last teamfight victory and ended the Guardians’ seven-game win streak.

DIG vs IMT

In the last game of the day, we saw Bolulu make his LCS debut on his pocket pick Zoe while Armut was finally able to get his hands on his Gnar. IMT mid laner was more successful on his pick. He won his lane in the early game and found multiple Sleepy Trouble Bubbles after the game opened more, giving his team control over the objectives.

IMT lost their grip over the game after their mid/jungle took a bad 2v4 in the mid lane, and once DIG started to itemize against their poke. As the game went on, it got harder and harder to kill the enemy carries, let alone the frontline. They still did their best to find some picks with the Soul on their side and delay the game till the Elder. After the Elder, the game just turned into straight chaos with backdoor attempts and Baron steals. But in the end, it was Tactical who found the play on Tomo and gave his team a hard-fought victory.
