In addition to the events OverActive are planning, the venue will also form a home for OverActive’s Activision Blizzard franchise teams; Toronto Ultra and Defiant. Chris Overholt, President and CEO of OverActive Media spoke about the announcement.
“It has always been our intention to develop a venue and hosting strategy and to build a facility that could not only serve as an iconic home for our two franchises, but ultimately emerge as a global hub for major international esport events”. According to former Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment executive, Bob Hunter, who was brought on to help run the project, the design will “provide technology that will make you feel like you’re sitting right next to the players.”

Located next to the home of Toronto FC, this venue is one of the first of its kind. And it takes a major step towards matching the fan bases of esports with regular sports. With Toronto’s franchises already battling with the fanbases of existing teams within their first years, Canada has adopted esports like no other. All in all this venue is likely to be exciting news for plenty of fans.
