LEC Week 3 Day 1 Summer Split 2022 Recap

The first day of LEC Week 3 is done and dusted. This was the first Week the new jungler Bel'veth was enabled and here is a recap of what you've missed.

Team BDS vs Misfits

In the encounter of two teams looking to step up their performance, we saw a great level two gank from Misfits at the bot lane, leading to a 2-minute first blood for Neon. We then saw MSF bot lane roaming mid for the first Herald and catching Cinkrof but BDS still got the objective. They then used Herald top and got their first kill, but MSF traded bot tower to keep themselves in 500 gold ahead at 14 minutes. MSF then got the second Herald, traded for BDS’s second drake, and used it to get two mid turrets, extending their lead to 2k. Despite BDS getting their soul point at the 22nd minute, MSF won the fight and got the Baron afterward.

They sieged effectively, using their pick potential very well. After the buff ended the gold lead was near 8k. MSF used their gold lead to start Baron, but they just turned and took the fight. They easily aced BDS which meant they were able to end the game.

Team Vitality vs SK Gaming

Due to health issues, Jean ‘Jezu’ Massol will be taking a break from the main team and Ilya ‘Gadget’ Makavchuk will be the starting ADC in his place.

Finally, we had our first look at Bel’veth at high-level pro play. Due to her scaling nature, the early game was slower than usual. Despite some trading, the only early interaction was an Hextech Drake by SK. We saw our first fight at 9 minutes for the first Herald. As Carzzy stayed bot, SK had a 5v4 and won it 2-for-0, but couldn’t take Herald as they were low. They eventually took it but Vit traded a drake back and Vit still had a 1k gold lead. Despite Vit winning a 3-for-1 trade and getting their second drake, SK got a couple of picks and the second Herald and they tied the gold. However SK got caught in the mid lane leading to a Vit Baron, and the lead was once again 3.5k.

Rogue vs Excel Esports

Rogue bot lane started with a very aggressive level one blowing all summs but no kills in return. Ten their top side dove a level 3 Kayle to secure first blood, but XL answered with a bot side gank and they got a kill on Patrik. However, XL ganked bot once again before the first drake, this time they lost two kills. With Rogue having a 2k gold lead at 9 minutes XL could contest neither the first Herald nor the first drake. Around 15 minutes Rogue had a 4k lead but XL managed to get a drake after Patrik got a solo kill on Larssen. XL then slowed the game down and got their second drake even though they were 3.5k behind.

Rogue picked a fight around Baron at 22 minutes, but despite starting the fight themselves they got aced and gave up Baron. But XL couldn’t siege properly as they gave up four individual picks to Rogue for a net loss in their Baron Power Play. Both teams were at two drakes so the focus was on the Baron. Despite Kayle hitting 18, Rogue managed to win the team fight and started pushing for the end. And after a close base fight, they did end the game.

Fnatic vs Astralis

As expected both teams started out aggressive in the bot lane, trading nearly all summoners at level 2 even without a kill. After this trade game slowed down considerably with the only action being FNC’s first drake. We then saw a fight at the first Herald Ast took with a man disadvantage and FNC won it handily, getting the objective and a 2k gold lead. It was a slow game as the first tower fell at the 17th minute with a 4k FNC lead. At the fight for FNC's second drake, they gave away the objective but got a 3-for-1 trade after a great Wunder engage. FNC then turned an Ast engage on its heads, winning another fight and taking Baron for a near 10k lead.

MAD Lions vs G2 Esports

MAD started to game with an early top invade. Even though there weren’t any kills, they got BB’s flash and a big top side advantage. On the other side, MAD bot lane did a level 2 all in and got first blood on UNF0RGIVEN, while G2 answered with a 3v2 at MAD’s jungle. G2 gave away two kills and a 1k gold lead to MAD after an overaggressive Jankos invade. Despite this MAD wasn’t confident enough to challenge the first Herald. The game heavily slowed down after this, there were a couple of turret trades but most kills went to MAD’s way and they had a 5k gold lead at the 20th minute.

Between 20-25 minutes there was almost no action except MAD taking their first drake, while G2 had already taken two. After the downtime, MAD decided to go for the Baron and turn when G2 contested. The 7k gold lead, and a mean Twitch flank, meant G2 couldn’t win and they gave up Baron. MAD had a long siege and a close mid fight, MAD got their second Baron and took two inhibitors, extending their lead to 10k. The game dragged on for a bit as MAD couldn’t close it out due to their low range, but they finally found their fight, acing G2 and ending the game.
