Ninja Responds to Tfue's Opinion on the State of Fortnite

The rivalry between Tyler “Ninja” Blevins and Turner “Tfue” Tenney dates back to the initial release of Fortnite back in July of 2017. These two took a similar path toward success as streaming personalities. The game of Fortnite granted them an overwhelming amount of viewers, which they both leveraged into a pile of cash and countless opportunities. Blevins and Tenney eventually took separate paths after the initial hype of Fortnite lessened. Tenney continued playing competitive Fortnite, and Blevins focused more on the entertainment aspect of streaming.

Tenney Airs Grievances

In a recent Tweet from Tenney, he stated his anger with the current state of Fortnite. The former FaZe Clan member has never shied away from his opinion regarding the Epic Games title. Each patch brings a new layer of hate to Fortnite, and Tenney usually voices his concerns regarding every change. His criticism typically includes the inconsistency of the game, and he hammers this point home with each passing stream. The allure of Tenney is his constant drive to want to improve and polish his skills in Fortnite. It is unclear whether Tenney is referring to competitive or the game itself. Nonetheless, it appears that Tenney is still less than satisfied with the current state of Fortnite even after a short hiatus from streaming on Twitch.

Ninja's Response

Blevins came to the defense of the game that helped elevate him into the limelight. He stated in response to Tenney’s Tweet that “I actually have been enjoying the game recently after the Gotham City update. If you don’t enjoy the game, stop playing and roasting it all the time.” Blevins himself has had it out with the developers of Fortnite in the past. Unfortunately, the popular Battle Royale title is one of the more polarizing video games in recent history. The casual and competitive communities have schools of players who dislike the game and vice versa. For Blevins, he recently broke the world record for most consecutive duo wins alongside his duo partner, Malachi “Reverse2k” Greiner. From all accounts, both Greiner and Blevins had a lot of fun during the process.

The Professional Stance

It’s not clear as to why Blevins came to the defense of Fortnite’s current status, but many other professional players were quick to interject. Two of these players include Parpy of the Oceania region and Ghost Issa who recently competed at the Fortnite World Cup. Parpy responded to Blevins, calling him out for essentially advertising Fortnite in response to Tenney’s Tweet. Blevins was quick to snap back, and then Issa involved himself in the situation. The Ghost Gaming representative stated that Blevins is not innocent in terms of holding out criticism against Fortnite. Blevins continued to defend himself, but it felt as though he was fighting a losing battle.

Blevins responded to Twitter user, @FortniteBRLive, with some words of wisdom on the issue at hand. Although it is unclear as to why Blevins came to the defense of Fortnite, this response paints a clearer picture. The unfortunate reality of the situation as the professional Fortnite players and entertainment streamers experience two different types of Fortnite. On the one hand, professional players leave their entire livelihoods in the hands of Epic Games. Regardless of what changes, they continue to play Fortnite as a career and hope to enjoy it consistently without massive overhauls to the game.

On the other hand, streamers like Blevins do not need competitive prize money or tournament wins in Fortnite to further their name for recognition. The same can be said for Tenney, but he continues to compete in tournaments and plays Fortnite exclusively on his stream. Personalities and professionals experience a different game and neither side is right or wrong in this case.

Tenney has yet to respond to Blevins, but it will be interesting to see the retort. Yes, Fortnite is most certainly not a perfect game by any means. The frustrations of professional players are legitimate simply due to the fact that their strategies need to keep evolving with each patch. It puts a heavy emphasis on just hoping that their landing spot and loot can carry them to a victory. Blevins recently dabbled in the competitive scene and came extremely close to qualifying for the Fortnite World Cup. We cannot simply rule out Blevins’ opinion just because he does not play competitively for 8 hours per day.

As we await Tenney’s response, it is important to remember that Fortnite will never be what it once was. Many players have turned on the Battle Royale title altogether, and they litter competitive forums with hate for the game. It’s worth noting that some players and personalities enjoy Fortnite for what it is because we genuinely don’t know what it will look like tomorrow.
