LCS: Danny Returns to EG as a Content Creator!

Last year’s rising star, Danny, has been off the grid for a while now, but he should be back soon!

Kyle Sakamaki, otherwise known as Danny, has shared some great news on his Twitter: he will be returning to Evil Geniuses this year, and even though he won’t be playing for the LCS team, he will still be a part of the organization as a streamer of the EG Creator Collective.

Danny has spent almost all of his career with Evil Geniuses. In the first four months, he played for Challenger team Zenith Esports, but at the end of the 2020 season, he got signed by the academy team of the Geniuses called EG Prodigies. He spent 5 months with the youngsters, winning some minor tournaments, such as the RCL 2021 Winter. They played in the Giant Slayer Gauntlet 2021 Spring and the LCS Proving Grounds 2021 Spring, getting to the top 6 of the latter tourney. He got promoted to the main roster of EG before the start of the 2021 summer LCS split, taking the place of Matthew “Deftly” Chen.

The History of Danny in the LCS

During the first split with Evil Geniuses, Danny finished 3rd in the regular season, but got knocked out from the top 6 in the 2021 LCS Championship. However, he stayed on the team alongside former World Champion Jeong “Impact” Eon-young when management revamped the team. Alongside Kacper “Inspired” Sloma, Joseph “jojopyun” Joon Pyun and Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme, Danny went on to get second place in last year’s Lock In event, finishing 4th in the Spring Split, then miraculously winning the playoffs, mostly thanks to Danny and his Jinx pentakills.

EG represented the LCS in the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational, where they got to top four before getting knocked out by Royal Never Give Up, who went on to win the whole event. While EG performed well during the summer split, Danny’s mental health deteriorated because of the pressure of being a pro player, and even though they won the regular season, he couldn’t finish the 2022 LCS Championship, so EG played with Muhammed “Kaori” Hasan Sentürk and finished 3rd. While Danny helped EG get to Worlds, he didn’t play in the international event, and his team got knocked out from the Group Stage, finishing in the top 14.

What the future holds

Danny has been on the bench of Evil Geniuses for almost half a year, with no intentions to return to professional play, as the team signed Ian “FBI” Victor Huang before the start of the 2023 Spring Split. Danny’s Tweet, which the official EG account has retweeted, sheds some light on the situation: Evil Geniuses supported Danny all the way despite of the accusations from the community, the young player couldn’t take the mental toll of competing. However, he doesn’t want to stay inactive forever, and streaming should be an environment that’s perfect for Danny, as he can give fans some insight to the life of an ex-pro, while staying relatively stress-free.
