Every Detail You Need To Know About the TFT Set 8.5: Glitched Out!

All of the new champions and traits in the new upcoming TFT Set 8.5.

Once again we are nearing the end of another TFT set and are about to welcome another mid-set expansion. This time around, there is a glitch in the Spatulapolis and some big changes are about to hit the city with the TFT Set 8.5: Glitched Out!

TFT player base is used to big changes during mid-sets nowadays, for Set 8.5 doesn’t seem to have too many drastic changes. Only 14 champions and three traits won’t appear in the new set, which is quite low compared to the previous mid-sets. Still, there are many new things to be excited about, especially two big system changes focused around the carousel.

First, Riot decided to fix the problem of deciding between a unit and an item when players are on the carousel. Now, when you pick a champion, the item will automatically pop off before the next stage begins. No more skipping the champion you wanted because you are afraid to have a bad item stuck on them. The devs are also introducing a new type of Glitched Out Carousels. They will appear at stage 2, and maybe more, and will include all kinds of different things that will excite the players.

TFT Set 8.5: Glitched Out! will be available on the Public Beta Environment (PBE) next Wednesday, March 8, with the official release for live servers being Wednesday, March 22, 2023. TFT dev team lead Stephen ‘Mortdog' Mortimer also posted a PBE rundown video on his YouTube channel, talking in-depth about the upcoming changes.

New traits in TFT Set 8.5

  • Pyke
    • Riftwalker, Hacker

  • Sivir
    • InfiniTeam, Sureshot

3-Cost Champions

  • Gnar

    • Riftwalker, Mascot
    • Vex launches a damaging missile at her current target, dealing magic damage. Every third cast, her missile is empowered, dealing magic damage and passing through enemies.

The bullet deals 44% reduced damage for each target it pierces through.
  • Neeko
    • Star Guardian, Spellslinger

Saying goodbye to some of the favorites

With many new champions and traits getting added to the game with TFT Set 8.5, it means some of the old faces need to be removed to make space. While some of these removed units are those were mostly problematic for the game like the super strong Yuumi with its Supers reroll com or Sett during the Mecha/Sureshots meta, others are gone due to their unpopularity. Cho’Gath for example only was used in the Kai’Sa Recon comp and Senna never found herself a place in the set aside from being a LaserCorps/Sureshot trait bot.

Some traits stayed in the mid-set with minor reworks, but Civilian, Recon and Arsenal are three traits completely gone from the game. Although not every champion with these tags is gone, some of them just found themselves new homes. Full list of champions that won’t appear in Set 8.5:

  • Galio
  • Talon
  • Yuumi
  • Cho’Gath
  • Senna
  • Vel’Koz
  • Zoe
  • Sejuani
  • Sett
  • Soraka
  • Taliyah
  • Zac
  • Zed
  • Aphelios
