WoW: How To Attune To Serpentshrine Cavern In Classic TBC

With Phase 2 comes Serpentshrine Cavern (SSC) so let’s look at how to get attuned so that you can enter.

Phase 2 adds SSC and Tempest Keep (TK) to the raid pool. We say goodbye to Karazhan, Gruul’s Lair, and Magtheridon’s Lair as we move fully into 25 people raiding. In this guide, we’ll look at SSC, but be sure to check out our guide for TK here.

Note; this quest can be completed before phase 2.

Serpentshrine Cavern Attunement TL;DR

Get Revered with the Cenarion Expedition and purchase the Coilfang Heroic key > Head into the Slave Pens Heroic > Speak with Skar’this the Heretic after the first boss > Kill Gruul the Dragonkiller > Kill Nightbane

Step One: Head to Slave Pens Heroic

You’ll need to get revered with the Cenarion Expedition and purchase the Coilfang Key to gain access to Coilfang Heroic dungeons.

Once you do that, head inside (with a group) and kill the first boss. After you kill them, look for Skar’this the Heretic, pictured above. Talk to him, and get the quest The Cudgel of Kar’desh.

Step Two: Kill Gruul the Dragonkiller

Next up, head into Gruul’s Lair, past the first boss, and takedown Gruul himself. It’s a fairly easy fight these days, with most pugs able to take it down in a few attempts. Once he’s dead, loot the Cudgel of Kar’desh, and head to step three.

Step Three: Kill Nightbane

For this part, you might need to complete a few additional steps first. You will need to get into Karazhan, which will require you to be attuned to that raid. You can read our full guide for that here.

Next, you’ll need to have either yourself or someone in your party summon Nightbane. This involves a quest chain given outside karazhan, which will see you do Heroics and fetch quests. You don’t all need to do this, however, just one person is needed to summon Nightbane. Once he’s dead, loot his item and head back to Skar’this the Heretic inside Slave Pens Heroic.

That’s it, you’re now able to enter SSC!
