WoW: Dragonflight Expansion Revealed, What we Know

So, the long-rumored (and leaked) expansion has been confirmed by Blizzard. With players heading back to Azeroth in Dragonflight.

Well, we knew it was coming but it's great to see it finally confirmed. The next Dragonflight will see WoW move to patch 10.0, meaning we'll enter WoW's 10th form. So maybe it's fitting that it will focus on dragons.

What's new in Dragonflight

So, let's get down to the brass tax. What's new with Dragonflight and how will it change WoW.

  • Evoker class – healer and ranged DPS
  • New Race Dracthyr – two forms, Dragon and “human”
  • New class Evoker can only be Dracthyr, Dracthyr can only be Evoker
  • Level cap to 70
  • Profession Revamp
  • Talent trees return
  • Dragon riding
  • UI overall
  • 4 new leveling zones and one “starter” zone

New Talent system and UI Changes

One big change is the return of Talent Trees. Since they first arrived in Vanilla, WoW has slowly removed and scaled back the feature. Right now, it's a little as a few rows of options where you pick one. Now, it looks like we'll be heading back to a full changeable and mixed spec talents. We still know very little about it, but we did see a small preview (below). From the Blizzard website, we have the following official information.

“Gain talent points with each level-up and spend them in two district talent trees. Class talent trees feature utility skills for your class, while Specialization trees boost your DPS and healing”

The next change came in the form of WoW's user interface(shown below). The default UI for WoW has barely changed in the 17 years of WoW, so this is a big change. Though Blizzard did point out that this feature is customizable, so you'll be able to display as much or as little as you want.

When will Dragonflight release

We had no news about a release window or any imminent plans for a pre-order. With news that Wrath Classic will launch in 2022, however, we'd expect Dragonflight to be out in early 2023 at the earliest.
