WoW: Ranking the Best World of Warcraft Guilds (PvE)

We take a peek at some of the best World of Warcraft Guilds when it comes to raiding.

Over the years, World of Warcraft has had many top guilds representing it. While the competitive PVP scene has more recently attracted outside organizations such as Cloud9, it’s the OG PVE WoW guilds we want to look at today. Below is our Best World of Warcraft Guilds based on the most recent Race to World First (RWF) ranking.

5 – Skyline

Rounding out the top five is Skyline, the Chinese-based guild representing the Asia region. While the only guild on this list from the region, Asian servers get content two days after those in North America and one day after Europe. So it’s even more impressive to see guilds in the region blitz the competition and make the list. Skyline beat fellow Asia guild Jitianhong to the world fifth spot by just 45 minutes, showing just how close the RWF can get.

Skyline has steadily risen through the ranks of the RWF in the past two expansions. Starting BFA at 15th, Skyline would climb to 5th for the Battle of Dazzar’alor, before settling at 7th, 9th, and 7th in the final three raids of BFA. This latest kill also marks the guild’s first regional first place as they look to become a dominant force in the future. Claiming top 3 at the end of Shadowlands, Skyline showed an incredible willingness to push through the raid tier, despite their disadvantage of getting the raid later. Will Dragonflight finally see an Asia guild claim the top spot?

It's worth noting that we might see Skyline leave the rankings going forward with Blizzard dropping support for WoW in China.

Big Dumb Golden Guardians (BDGG)

A new entry in our top 5 list for Dragonflight. BDGG has given NA another RWF hopeful, with the backing of Golden Guardians, BDGG could make a top 3 push as Dragonflight continues. They consistently held the NA second spot since N'zoth, so it's great to see them breaking into the top 5.

3 – Method

Method has been one of the premier WoW esports organizations since almost the very start. With 12 RWF titles under their belt, Method is still a tour de force in WoW esports. The organization suffered. While it looked the be the end for Method, they slowly rebuilt the organization, and in Sepulcher of the First Ones, they achieved a second-place finish.

Now, as we head into Dragonflight, Method has made more changes as they look to push for another RWF title. With Pieces now not competing, it feels like a top 3 spot has opened up for Method. One major change in Dragonflight will see long-time main tank, and organization owner, Scott “Sco” McMillan, step down from active raiding. Though, that might not be such a bad thing, as everyone knows “Sco was the problem”. So we expect Method to claim a RWF in no time.

While Dragonflight only saw Method retain their 3rd spot, they'll need to continue to improve heading into Season 2, with guilds starting to breathe down their neck.

2 – Team Liquid (formerly Limit)

Back-to-back World Firsts had seen Limit rise to the number one spot for WoW PVE. With their innovative tactics, and pioneering use of an outside raid leader in the form of Guild Leader, Max, Liquid turned heads during BFA and continued to bring their A-game to Shadowlands. However, it all came good at the end of BFA, when Liquid achieved greatness and secured a well-deserved World First. Doing so took the title away from Europe, and Limit grew from that.

In Shadowlands, Liquid took it to the next level, being the only guild to do a live, in-person event featuring several of their top raiders, including raid leader Max. It all paid off in the end, with Liquid looking clean through the tier, picking up countless World Firsts on the way. Sadly, the final race of the expansion ran too long for Liquid, who pulled out early, handing the race to Echo. Liquid did, however, come back to claim a top 5 finish. So while they sit in 5th here, we doubt we've seen the last of Liquid as a RWF contender just yet.

Dragonflight saw Team Liquid push hard, but ultimately they couldn't claim the victory. With season 2 around the corner, it was the perfect chance for Liquid to get back into the fight.

1 – Echo

While technically a new guild for Shadowlands, Echo was the re-forming of Method under a new banner. After a series of allegations aimed at their former guild, most of the non-leadership members of Method parted ways with the organization and formed Echo. So despite achieving second place in their very first raid tier, the roster packs some serious experience.

The guild picked up a number of sponsors before Shadowlands launched, and went into the tier as one of the two main hopefuls for the World First race. Despite their best efforts, Echo couldn’t secure the top spot, losing out to the North American guild Complexity-Limit (now Liquid). However, they went into the next two raids in great form, and claimed back-to-back-to-back titles. Dragonflight has started with Echo claiming a victory, and they look unstoppable.
