Apex Legends Valkyrie Guide, Abilities, Tips and More

Get all the information you need to become a Valkyrie master.

The latest addition to the Apex Legends roster, Valkyrie takes to the skies in the Season 9 Legacy update. Bringing some of the most powerful abilities we’ve seen to date, she’s sure to be a popular legend in the community.

Below, we’ll cover each of her abilities in detail, and how to best utilize them to dominate the battlefield. We’ll also give a look at some of Valkyrie’s backstory and some new additions coming in Season 9.

Apex Legends Valkyrie Abilities

VTOL Jetpack (Passive) – Press space while in the air to engage the jetpack. You can switch between hold and toggle mode in the options menu. When skydiving, nearby enemies are highlighted for Valkyrie and her squad for a few seconds.

Missile Swarm (Tactical) – Fire a swarm of mini-rockets that damage and disorient the enemy.

Skyward Dive (Ultimate) – Press once to prepare for launch. Teammates can interact with Valkyrie to join the launch. Press again to launch into the air and skydive.

Recon Legend – Able to scan Survey Beacons to see the next ring.

Valkyrie Abilities Tips and Tricks

VTOL Jetpack – At first glance, Valkyrie’s passive looks a strong one. Allowing her to fly up high to buildings and survey the battlefield from up high. While she’s able to save a lot of time doing so, she’s very slow while doing it. Not only will this make her a prime target for snipers, but the jets are also very loud, giving other parties in the area knowledge of your team's position.

The words "Apex Legends" appear next to the new legend Valkyrie on a purple background.

For the VTOL, the best use of the jetpack is as a scouting tool. An important note here is that Valkyrie is unable to use her weapons while in flight, so you won’t be getting any sick airborn no scopes. This will also stop you from using your weapon for a short time when landing, so try not to overuse the passive in firefights.

The jet takes time to recharge, and won’t start recharging for five seconds after landing. So avoid overusing it.

Missile Swarm – Missile Swarn is a great-looking ability that fails to deliver the punch the visuals make it seem like it’ll have. Ideally, you want to use Missile Swarm to finish off injured enemies that you can’t take down with your weapon. Another good use is in combination with your VTOL Jetpack. Unlike your weapons, you can use Missile Swarm while flying. Either use it to gain a height on your foe or fly to the roof of a building and rain down on an enemy team.

Skyward Dive – Finishing off Valkyrie’s abilities is her highly recon-centric ultimate. Skyward Dive allows you to deploy your team to a new location without the use of a balloon or geyser. Effectively this gives you the ability to redeploy like at the start of the match, making Valkyrie the jumpmaster for her squad.

The ability has so many uses, it’ll be interesting to see how it’s used in the meta. With so many possibilities, from chasing down enemy teams, moving from an enclosing circle, or finding the high ground in the final ring. Skyward Dive is likely to be the most powerful part of Valkyrie’s kit… so it’s a good job it’s her ultimate.

When will Valkyrie Release?

Valkyrie will release with Season 9, Legacy on May 4. The update will be free as always, with a season pass offered to those wanting extra rewards.

What else is coming to Apex Legends Season 9?

Two angles of a Boeck Bow from Apex Legends are shown with a brief description of it between the two shots.

Bocek Bow

The new Bocek Bow is the start of the new Marksman weapon class and is also the first bow added to the game. The comes with two add-ons, which are not unique to the bow but are new with its release.

  • Deadeye's Tempo: Firing at the perfect moment increases its fire rate (also available for the Sentinel).
  • Shatter Caps: Your arrows split into a blast pattern when fired (also available for the 30-30 Repeater).

Another sniper-style weapon won’t please everyone, especially those looking to main Valkyrie. However, this bow has its limitation, and it will be interesting to see how it’s perceived in the meta for Season 9.

New Arena Mode

The mode will start with a buy phase, something we’re used to in games like those mentioned above. Players will have a series of weapons, upgrades to those weapons, and equipment to purchase before the start of each new round. You’ll use credits that you’ll earn during each round to buy these upgrades. Teammates can be revived, though no one can be respawned during a round. The map will also be littered with supplies and ammo, alongside one high-value drop. Each series is best-of-five, with sudden death being used in case of a 4-4 draw.

The game mode will feature custom-made maps using the current and old versions of the Apex Legends BR maps. The arena will launch with a number of maps, with more likely to be added down the line. Apex Legends Legacy launches on May 4, alongside the new legend and game modes. Check back here closer to the launch for more guides and news about the upcoming season.

Changes to Olympus

The new Season: Legacy, will also see changes to Olympus. “An infestation has sprung loose, strangling the city with roots and natural growths.” The map will see a parasitic plant growing on the map after it was brought to the area by a spacecraft called Icarus. The new ship is located between Orbital Cannon, Solar Array, and Bonsai Plaza, replacing Crossroads. The area is large, with four rooms and littered with the corpses of dead scientists. Once per match, one of the bodies will have a keycard attached, allowing that squad access to the ship's bridge to gain valuable rewards.

The map has also seen the number of balloons removed, which Respawn hopes will reduce third-partying. The removed balloons are at Golden Gardens and Orbital Cannon. These will go when the new season launches on May 4.
