Apex Legends Mobile Is Shutting Down

Not even a year after its release, Apex Legends Mobile will be shutting down.

Respawn Entertainment and EA know something about Apex Legends Mobile that we don't. Less than a week before Apex Legend's fourth anniversary, Respawn Entertainment announced in a blog post that Apex Legends Mobile is riding off into the sunset.

The news of Apex Legends Mobile's shutdown followed after EA released its earnings report for the third fiscal quarter. Respawn Entertainment stated that while Apex Legends Mobile had a strong start, it's been on a downward decline. Specifically, Respawn Entertainment highlighted a drop in quality and quantity regarding content releases for Apex Legends Mobile. That seems to check out, with the fourth season having experienced a delay earlier this month.

Furthermore, if you look at the earnings data, Apex Legends Mobile is pretty behind the curve. Apex Legends Mobile made nearly 5 million in its first week and 20 million in the first two months. Apex Legends Mobile has only passed the 40 million dollar mark this monthMobile gaming is a huge moneymaker, and Apex Legends Mobile isn't. It isn't hard to see how someone would think it more effort than worth to continue Apex Legends Mobile's lifespan.

All real money in-app purchases are now disabled. The official Apex Legends Mobile Webstore is no more, and purchases on third-party webstores are no longer available. The Syndicate Gold you presently have in your accounts will remain, and you are free to spend it however you wish. There will be no refunds from Respawn Entertainment.

Respawn Entertainment has assured fans that Apex Legends Mobile's shutdown will not affect PC/console Apex Legends in any way and that both avenues are still running strong.

Apex Legends Mobile had a regional launch on March 7, 2022, and launched globally on May 17. It seemed like a surefire for success. It earned Apple's Game of the Year 2022 and Google Play's Best Overall Game and User's Choice awards at the 2022 Play Awards. Who knew where Apex Legends Mobile would go on the esports scene? There was no reason to doubt it had potential. But it wasn't meant to be.

Apex Legends Mobile isn't the only mobile casualty today. EA also announced that Battlefield Mobile has been canceled and that they are shutting down the development studio in charge, Industrial Toys. It's possible EA is taking a step back from the mobile gaming scene for the time being.

Players have until 4 PM PDT on May 1 to enjoy Apex Legends Mobile, after which Respawn Entertainment will shut down the servers permanently, and the game will no longer be playable.
