Overwatch 2: Four Tips to Help You Improve

Overwatch 2 can be a difficult game to master, so take these four tips with you on your travels.

Naturally, many people want to use some of the best Overwatch 2 heroes right now to get to their desired rank as quickly as possible. Some of them succeed, but others don’t know what they should focus on and often make mistakes that usually cost them victory. Fortunately, we’re here to help because we’re about to share some important things to help you become a better player.

You will most likely be familiar with most of the things you’re about to see, but there will be at least a few new things you weren’t aware of. Most people don’t think of those things, so let’s dive in and learn more about everything.

Focus on the right target

One of the biggest problems that people go through when playing in Overwatch 2’s lower ranks is that they do not focus on the right target. This mainly applies to DPS, but since Tanks are so strong in Overwatch 2, we might as well include them here.

Focusing on the right target in Overwatch 2 can make a night and day difference when it comes down to winning a fight. If you focus on someone who’s almost impossible to kill, you will miss out on many opportunities to land an easy kill on someone else and win the fight.

One of the most common mistakes that DPS players make is to focus on the tank instead of trying to kill the supports and squishy DPS in the blacklines. Some DPS heroes can do well against tanks, such as Reaper, but others are not effective at all. Widowmaker is an excellent example of an Overwatch 2 DPS hero that has to focus on the enemy’s support and DPS because she can one-shot them.

Speaking of focusing on the wrong targets, many Overwatch 2 tank players pay too much attention to the enemy’s tank because they want to be better than him. As good as it might sound, this is not something to focus on. Instead, you will be much stronger if you pay more attention to the DPS and try to pressure them with your abilities.

Dueling is fun, but don’t focus too much on it

Overwatch 2 Crosshair Guide

If there is one thing that many Overwatch 2 players, it is when they die to the same hero from the enemy’s team. This is especially true when it comes down to heroes like Widowmaker or Hanzo.

No one likes losing a mirror duel, but even if that happens, it is not the end of the world. Sure, dying to your own hero sucks, but it is probably not a good idea to focus so much on winning the duel because you will almost always miss out on other opportunities to be useful for your team.

Always think carefully about what you can do to be as effective as possible, and go for it. Sometimes, you have to try and bring down that enemy Widowmaker because she can cause many problems. However, there are cases where you have to try and deal with the enemy’s support because they are really annoying.

Always keep track of the enemy cooldowns when going for a kill

Let’s face it, all Overwatch 2 players want to get as many kills as possible. Some of them focus exclusively on it, whereas others eventually find themselves at the top of the leaderboard when it comes down to skill.

The bad news is that securing kills in OW 2 is not as easy as it sounds, especially against certain heroes. Every hero has at least one ability that allows him to survive or escape, depending on the situation. This means that the only way to kill this person is if you force him to use his cooldowns before that.

The examples here are endless, but we can include things like the immortality field, Widowmaker’s hook, Tracer’s Recall, etc. All of those abilities increase the hero’s survivability and allow him to live even if it's under pressure. So, the only way to secure a kill is if you make sure that this ability is on cooldown.

Overwatch 2 is a 5v5 game, which means that keeping track of multiple cooldowns is not as easy as it seems. However, it is something you need to master to ensure you can kill your opponents easily.

As a Support, you main job is to avoid dying

Like in most other games where there are supports/healers, low-rank players do not pay attention to this role a lot because they don’t think it’s that important. However, the only way to win a game in Overwatch 2 is if your supports know what they’re doing. The bad news is that this is easier said than done because most people don’t know what to do.

One of the biggest mistakes made by Overwatch 2 support players is that they die too often. Staying alive with some heroes is not easy, but you have to learn how to do that to be effective. You will almost always be a priority target from the enemy’s team, so you have to learn how to survive.

There are many things you can do to survive for as long as possible during a fight. The most important one is to pay attention to your positioning. Ideally, you should try to stay behind the tank and avoid any open spaces where you can get flanked.

Another key thing to remember is how to use your defensive cooldowns. Every support in Overwatch 2 has them, so don’t waste your abilities when you don’t have to because your opponents will notice it and try to kill you right away.
